NYE

Hey, I love the cheap stuff. Nothing says New Years like a bottle of $4 strawberry-flavored champagne!

It is my older brothers birthday, so we are going over there during the day to celebrate him with cake and so on.

But tonight we (me and aa) are staying in and staying cozy. :)

Earlier this evening I had dinner with my wife and children, probably the first time we've eaten out together in two years. It was nice.

As it's10:50pm local time, I'm already having some beer and nibblies. Around midnight I'll have a whiskey over ice, toast in the new year. On the box I'm watching some West Wing, maybe I'll watch an episode of A History of Scotland.

Yeah. I'm a party dude. :)

I can definitely sympathize. A lot of the people in my office are making big New Year's plans, and some of my old friends from childhood are gathering back in Chicago and keep asking me to travel out there for a night of fun. I imagine that I'll have a few other people pestering me about meeting up for the holiday.

But this is a year during which I've been working 80-plus-hour weeks for the last twelve months, and I have yet to have consecutive days off in the last two years. (I didn't even take time off when I got married, in July 2007.) I also got sober this year, so the idea of bar-hopping on New Year's, or house parties, or anything of that nature doesn't really appeal to me anymore.

So I'm really quite tired, and I believe our plan is to get some Chinese take-out, stay at home and watch movies and play video games.

And that sounds a lot more fun to me than reveling in the streets of Chicago, or any one of the crazy parties going on here in Dubuque.

I think I'm getting old.

Nahh, you're not getting old... you're growing up. :p

Seriously though, sounds to me as if you have it evaluated perfectly. You need the rest, and you don't need the temptation. So be thankful you still have friends who covet your time enough to pester you with invitations, politely decline and enjoy the time alone with someone who provides only the best of temptations. ;)

I don't usually do anything for new years eve, what with having few friends and not usually bothering to go to parties, but my friend said he might be throwing a small party and asked if I wanted to come over, and it beats being bored at home.

My girlfriend made it last night so we're gonna get drunk and watch bad movies and make fun of each other. It'll be fun.

Well, I'm calling from the futire now - it's 2010 here.

Listening to CCR doing 'Heard It Thriough The Grapevine'., sippin' some very nice whiskey (Glenlivet 12 yr old over ice). It could be worse (and indeed, has). :)

Come over! I even put up some white Christmas lights around the place--aren't you the one who likes those? We'd make you play games and stuff though. Rock Band and maybe we'll get really crazy and play Star Trek Scene It!

I'm such a nerd.

That sounds like fun. :) (My wife and I are huge Rock Band and Scene It fans.)

Just got in the Champagne, brandy and sugar cubes. We're doing Champange cocktails. Friends are bringing over port and cheese. I'm looking forward to using the crystal Champagne flutes we were given as a wedding present. We don't get to use them very often, but I'm always nervous when I use them.

Yeah, I had a moment of nervousness. I put out Waterford linens, crystal candlesticks, crystal glasses, and our china, none of which we've ever used. But honestly, if something breaks, it's not like it can't be replaced. And I think I'd feel worse if we ended up just never using this stuff. It's pretty, why not use it?

Kestra, you NYE plans sound stupendous! I want to play Trek Scene it, too!
That sounds like fun. :) (My wife and I are huge Rock Band and Scene It fans.)

I wish you guys could come over! Now that would be an awesome NYE party.

Well, I'm calling from the futire now - it's 2010 here.

I'd be forever in your debt if you could pass along the winning numbers to the California Lotto for December 31st. Hell, I'll even share with you.

You could use .50 cents, yes?

I'm going in about 30 minutes to the LCBO across the street to get booze so I'll be poor by the time I get back.

Just got back from work today and had my dinner, it's 7:27pm. I'm not going out... fuck all is happening here... gonna be another brilliant night...

^^^^. Me too. I got a little hipper just now. Although I will be drinking alone tonight with my lips puckered up for a kiss that will never come. :(

Well, I've got no party plans, so I thought I might just go to the movies and finally check out Avatar in IMAX 3-D... I wonder how crowded it'll be.
