NYE

Plans for New Year's Eve? Thoughts on the holiday? In recent years I haven't been big on celebrating it so this year my husband and I decided to do gourmet food and champagne, but stay in pjs at home and watch movies and play videogames and such.

Then my really good friend and my brother wanted to hang out too, so I said okay and they're spending the night (they're dating). Which is all fine, but now I've got other people asking me my plans and I feel a bit guilty but I really don't want to have a lot of people over, or go out.

Does anyone else get pressured to do stuff for NYE but not really feel up to it?

Yeah, a friend of mine keeps a high level of pressure on me to come to her place for some sort of (small) party -I keep telling her I'd rather be left on my own with the internet and TV and a pizza.

I can definitely sympathize. A lot of the people in my office are making big New Year's plans, and some of my old friends from childhood are gathering back in Chicago and keep asking me to travel out there for a night of fun. I imagine that I'll have a few other people pestering me about meeting up for the holiday.

But this is a year during which I've been working 80-plus-hour weeks for the last twelve months, and I have yet to have consecutive days off in the last two years. (I didn't even take time off when I got married, in July 2007.) I also got sober this year, so the idea of bar-hopping on New Year's, or house parties, or anything of that nature doesn't really appeal to me anymore.

So I'm really quite tired, and I believe our plan is to get some Chinese take-out, stay at home and watch movies and play video games.

And that sounds a lot more fun to me than reveling in the streets of Chicago, or any one of the crazy parties going on here in Dubuque.

I think I'm getting old.

I have a girl coming over that I'm gonna get wrecked with and, uh, see what happens.

Surprisingly, I have never spent NYE this way before.

One of my friends who lives in Chicago is actually driving out to Dubuque for New Years, and I can't figure out why.

So far, I'm not doing anything for New Years. Instead, all of my friends are getting together Saturday night for a belated New Years thing. We're going to a bar to see a local Quad City band in Muscatine.

I hate it now.
Wow, a clock ticking over from 11:59pm to 12:00am
How exciting, that only happens, god, every day

Not sure if I can be bothered going out this year

I shall be sleeping and enjoying something better than NYE, New Year's Morning! It always gets my batteries going to take a nice walk and reflect on my last year in the morning while everyone else is hungover.

I haven't really discussed with my fiancee and her parents. It will be our first NYE. I was planning on going up to New Hampshire to see my folks for a week this weekend but there is supposed to be a storm coming. I had thought of going down to the Lodge for a dinner or something but she hasn't been herself lately and I'm not sure she would be into it. There's no tv service in the vacation house here so we can't just tune in to Dick Clark here.

I might walk to the beach and watch the "Children's Fireworks" which start at sundown on the other side of the river. The western shore is about 6km away from the beach but it is a clear view.

I am hesitant to go down to the beach by myself at midnight to view the main fireworks even though my neighbourhood is relatively safe. Maybe I might walk to the top of the street running off of mine. I think I might have a reasonable view from there.

No plans. I have to work anyway. I suppose when I get off work, I can drink alone and then make out with myself as the clock strikes twelve. :(

*on a related note - I can party with the best of them, but I have NEVER understood the purpose of starting off a new year with a renewed hope with a nasty hangover

I'll be indulging in the same routine that I have for a number of years now: Chinese Food and Three Stooges Marathon.

When I was young, I usually spent it with friends in Hartford or New York, though I never went to Times Square. I also did First Night a few times, which was fun enough, but riding the Red Line on New Year's Eve is the stuff of nightmares.

Oh yeah, I have to work, too. :( I'm hoping I'm not too tired to get up to no good later.
