Northeast Frankenstorm, hurricane Sandy.

Wow... Nana is really showing her age in that shot. Even in the last days of DS9 in 1999, she looked really good. That's just 13 years ago. I guess stage makeup was hiding things well. Anyway, she still looks good, just expected her to look younger.

Yeah, it's a real shame she couldn't prepare herself for being on camera better, what with the power outages, high winds, rainfall, and all the stores being closed. She really let herself go in the middle of this massive disaster.

Her face was actually fine. It was her wrinkled neck that was really telling, very 60's like... and not much you can do about that with makeup.
Are you just trolling now? Because that would be rather tasteless given the topic of this thread.

Hey all, just checking in, safe and sound in Queens NY. We made it through relatively unscathed. My sister is living with us for the foreseeable future. Her apartment was flooded from floor to ceiling, she lost everything she owned. It is so scary around here. The main street in my neighborhood is basically gone. There was 4-6 feet of water that went down the main block. It's so sad.

Finally got a hold of our Staten Island friends. They all seem to be okay, though the neighborhood near theirs was really messed up. Hylan Blvd. is practically a river! (If you know S.I. at all, you'd know that's a very bad thing!) The Ferry actually ran today- so that's one thing back to normal.

I have no power still and I'm posting this from my mother's office. I was very lucky compared to many others and driving round has been a sobering, if at times interesting, experience.

There is exactly 1 gas station in my neighborhood and at 6am, the line for gas was 1.5 miles long at least. that was for cars, I could not even see how many people were standing there with gas cans.

I have a feeling that if New Jersians were allowed to pump their own gas, there wouldn't be a problem.

This is another way to find stations: http://mappler.net/gasstation/

Hess has been keeping station listings up-to-date here: http://hessexpress.com/FuelInformation

I ended up driving up to Paramus. Waited about 90 minutes and got into a Lukoil. They filled me up.

If you live near Paramus, I would recommend going on Route 17 and just getting into one of the lines there.

Bear in mind the rationing based on plate numbers that's in effect now.

You know what's funny? While we aren't allowed to pump gas into our own cars, the attendants are making people pump their own gas into canisters. I guess putting the nozzle into a gas tank is too dangerous for Tony, but sticking it into a thin plastic container yourself is perfectly safe.

A Nor'easter is projected to hit Maryland on Wednesday. Cripes. :(

I just spoke to Yeoman Randi a couple of bleems ago. She is fine and her place is not damaged, just got her power back. So her safety is assured. She says hi, BTW. :)

Saw a Hess tanker delivering gas to a lukoil station yesterday. I give large props to the CEO of Hess, he is from NJ and when he heard that his competitors stations were going dry and having trouble getting resupplied, ordered his company to let his tanker trucks resupply them. He also was the first donor/company to donate to the states Sandy relief fund, calling up Christie when he first heard about it to donate $2.5 million.

This is the wait for gas along Jericho Turnpike in Westbury. This was in the afternoon and the gas station didn't have gas since the morning, so people have been waiting for hours without the place ever being open.

I don't understand why embedding Youtube never works for me. If someone could or explain what I'm doing wrong, I really appreciate it.

Finally got it, thanks all.

Thanks, always wondered why. However now I have a big blank spot.

You can't use the shortened "youtu.be" links, it must be an actual "youtube.com" link.

As for long lines: there is a gas station up the street from me that people keep lining up for, even though it's only open for a few hours each day and doesn't seem to have much capacity. Like today, they were opening it up just as I was leaving to find gas elsewhere, and they ran dry shortly after I returned. Total time: about 2 hours. And these people would sit and wait 4-6 hours while the station wasn't even open! Go find another one, folks.

Police also have to hang out around the gas stations to discourage fighting. There are line-jumpers every now and then, which leads to fights. When I was waiting in line earlier today, I was hanging back a little bit so I wasn't blocking an entrance to a shopping plaza. Someone took this as an opportunity and tried to get in line right in front of me. But that blocked others from using the plaza entrance. We all sat there and honked at this asshole for a few minutes, until they finally went through the entrance and got out of the line. Nothing like a little public shaming to embarrass people into doing the right thing. :p
