Northeast Frankenstorm, hurricane Sandy.

I didn't even lose power. We really dodged a bullet in my town. My mom's friends lost their beach house in New Jersey, though.

Neither did I. Being 90 miles inland helps. About the worst we had was some large branches down.

I offered my mom (she lives an hour south of here) a cooked meal and a hot shower, yet for some reason she punted on the offer. I don't get it.

What a mess. I'm happy to hear everyone here reporting in that they and their friends and family are okay. I guess we're lucky that the casualty count is so low, considering the devastation-- there were many acts of heroism that saved many lives. But a lot of people have no homes to go back to, or severely damaged ones. :(

Nothing of significance to report here. A few branches down, some minor flooding. I went down to the beach this morning everything was normal-- except the sand had come up over the seawall onto the street.

PBS Newshour just had a clip with Nana Visitor in one of those Average Joe storm experience interviews!

I think I saw that over here in the late evening news, too. The woman sure sounded like her, although I would not have immediately recognised her. Did the PBS reporter knew who he was interviewing?

^ How DARE they! :scream: :D

Just had a thought: I wonder if there are any of those 2012 conspiracy nutjobs who think this is a fulfillment of prophecy... :guffaw:

Here's the clip. She appears very close to the beginning, at about the 0:45 mark.

(Not sure if it will work for those outside the States, but that's all I've found, so far.)

They gave her name, but didn't note her as an actress.
Yeah, she was being interviewed as a "New York resident"; occupation wasn't particularly relevant.

I know there's been a lot of news of the damage and devastation, but I thought some good news would be nice.

Newark mayor Cory Booker has been working for the past 2 days, helping people out and coordinating relief efforts in the city. He is driving around in an SUV with supplies for people, responding personally to calls for assistance. His Twitter is here.

Blog post about his activities.

The effects of the storm apparently reached Chicago

You'd need to scroll through the pictures a bit, but there's a picture of a guy taking pictures, with wild waves in the Chicago harbor.

I'm on the other side of Illinois, but it has been extremely windy here the last couple days. No idea if it has anything to do with the hurricane or not.

So, my friend in Moonachie that I'd heard was okay? She was, as of last night--which is the last time anyone heard from her. No one's sure what's happening now. No one can seem to reach her. :(

Hopefully, her phone just got wet or something and she's not been able to get to another phone or computer. I am just worried. Her boss is going to check on her in the morning.

^Wow, I'm so sorry. I'm hoping she's okay. I finally heard from one of my friends in Queens only an hour ago; I understand how hard the wait is.

He had me months ago when he responded to a reporter's question about gay marriage with "Dear god, we should not be putting civil rights issues up to a popular vote, to be subject to the sentiments, the passions of the day."

Wow... Nana is really showing her age in that shot. Even in the last days of DS9 in 1999, she looked really good. That's just 13 years ago. I guess stage makeup was hiding things well. Anyway, she still looks good, just expected her to look younger.

Our damned power grid is so ancient, relative to what Europe has. There's just no excuse for it. If more power lines were submerged underground, we'd have had far fewer outages. But nobody wants to pay for the revision, and at this point the government is too far in debt to help...

Between the conditions she's under in the city, the rain, lack of power. Her not being covered in makeup, and her being in her mid-50s I don't think Nana looks that bad.
