Noob to star trek and forum

Hope so. He is creepy, and I personally think a terrible actor.
I also think Malcom Reed is Enterprise is equally as creepy and anoying. Haven't finished Enterprise yet, but I am some what hoping Malcom Reed gets killed in a horrific accident :D

I disagree extremely strongly - Robert Picardo is a fine actor (possibly the best of the Voyager cast) and he plays the character well, however the character he plays is incredibly irritating.

I'll take "irritating" over blandly likeable any day. The EMH pretty much steals every scene he's in.

I still remember watching one particularly dull ep of VOYAGER and experiencing a palpable surge of relief when the EMH finally showed up. "Oh, thank god, maybe things will perk up now." :)

Siddig is an excellent actor. It was fairly common thought at the time he was snubbed an Oscar nom for Syriana. And he pretty much carries Kingdom of Heaven, despite it being filled with top-rate actors -- well the director's cut anyway. The only place anyone carried the theatrical cut was to the trash bin.

That's one of the worst episodes of the whole franchise and really not because of his acting.

I'll give him a pass.

Then tried original series, but struggled
There are 79 episodes, but if you'd like a list of ones "worth watching first":

"Balance Of Terror", because you asked about the Romulan War. A follow-up to watch is "The Enterprise Incident".

"Space Seed", because it explains the origin of a main character in one of the movies.

"City On The Edge Of Forever", because it's often rated as The Best ST:TOS Episode, and rates very high on the all-Trek list.

"Journey To Babel", because it introduces Andorians (and Tellarites) to the Trek universe. It also introduced Spock's parents.

"Amok Time", because it gives more insight Vulcan culture.

"The Trouble with Tribbles", because it's just so darned fun.

There's about a dozen more I could recommend, including "Arena", "Mirror, Mirror", "The Devil In The Dark", and "Errand Of Mercy". I'd suggest watching the original pilot "The Cage" before watching the two-part "The Menagerie" because they used a lot of the footage from the former in the latter.

If you search around, or just ask here, you can find many opinions rank-ordering the entire series from best episode to worst. Almost everyone will put "Spock's Brain" in last place, or at least in the bottom five.

Yeah, as much as it pains to admit it, you probably don't need to watch every episode of TOS if you prefer more modern fare. Sgt. G's suggestions makes a pretty good starter list, although I'll point out that "Errand of Mercy" is the ep that introduces the Klingons if that interests you.

In the novels they state that there are blue Orions which give credence to the agent in Babel.

@dodge, I did say "almost everyone". In all my years, I have met only one person who actually *liked* that episode Might you be the second??

Thank you SGT_G, that's a great help. I will probably binge watch those episodes tonight and see if I can stomach more. :)
