    If TOS's lack of contemporary hyper-realism is difficult, I would suggest thinking of the whole thing as a stylized stage play, because in those days television still leaned a little more in that direction. Nobody expects the visual backdrops of a stage production to be like a flashy Hollywood blockbuster. Rather, the emphasis is on story and character.

    To me, TOS at its best offers a sublimely satisfying narrative experience. But then, I may be somewhat biased, as I generally only like media of any kind from about the 1930s to the 1960s.

    Donald Trump complained about Canada burning down the White House in the War of 1812 (which was some 50 years before Canada became a country).
