nods to previous treks *spoilers*

I thought it was cool when nuSpock entered the jellyfish the computer welcomed him as "Ambassador Spock", which was his title in the TNG eps.

Incidently, ENT fans should probbaly keep in mind that it was quite possible that T'Pol was killed on Vulcan ;)

Hell, it goes deeper than that ... more than likely, every Vulcan we've ever met besides Spock and Sarek is gone. No T'Pau, T'Pol, T'Pring, or T'Lar. Tuvok's parents are dead, as are Dr. Selar's grandparents. That whole DS9 baseball team. Sybok. Gone.

Even that little smiley dude ... :vulcan: ... he's probably dead, too.
So if Tuvok's parents are dead that means Tuvok himself won't be born? That means no Voyager????

Finally something good to come out of the new timline....

Don't know if it's been mentioned before, but there were 47 Klingon ships destroyed. I picked up on that one the first time I watched it!

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

It makes me all kinds of happy that "Enterprise" is the only the show to have happened in both continuities.

That's hilarioius in a warped way. That's just not right! :p

"47" references don't count as nods since they are not nods to any particular Star Trek series - -they're simply nods to the number 47.

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

All the unseen history Archer must surely have been involved in, and all they can reference is his name and the fact he owned a beagle. History really hasn't been kind to the first Enterprise Captain has it? Simply because the new film's writers weren't all that interested.

I was hoping for a background graphic. His portrait hanging somewhere. Overhearing a teacher mentioning the Romulan War in an Academy Class. "Who was the Captain of the NX-01?" A question to which Chekov answers with a Russian name but is then corrected...

How about some Andorian background cadets? Enterprise was the easiest one to connect to and show some progression of. Even the uniforms on the U.S.S. Kelvin don't seem to fit any evolvution between the NASA inspired jumpsuit and the Pike era, two piece sweater look. Clearly more influenced by TNG of all eras.

When I thought of the best reference they could do, it involved Scott Bakula in old age make-up - a cameo role on a conducted inspection tour. The last thing I wanted was my show to be the butt of Simon Pegg's stand-up routine. I'm trying not to think of the animal cruelty issue here.

Oh dear, you were really hoping for waaaaaaay too much. Remember this is the show, in Paramount's eyes, that almost killed the franchise. Why on earth would they give so much screen time to a homage for a "failed" show?

True. I'm guessing ChristopherPike also wanted a Ziggy and Al mention/sighting.

I think I've spotted a nod to Majel Barret, during the scene when the Enterprise is warping to Vulcan and Chekov is trying to use the computer, I am fairly certain that the computers voice is hers.

Could some check this for me.

She is the computer voice. She's listed in the credits and it was reported a very short time before she died...

I was hoping to see if anyone else noticed nods to the previous movies/series.
The two i noticed big time was Kirk eating the apple during the kobyashi maru test, and the enterprise rising out of the clouds both ala The Wrath of Khan. Anyone notice anything else?

The worm Nero uses to force Pike tell him what he wants to know, is the same worm Kahn uses in "Star Trek II"

-I loved The DS9 homage. Great to see it there. A bunch of officers, sitting at a bar, drinking a Cardassian Sunrise, while a goofy alien barfly who looks kind of similar to Morn looks on in bewilderment.

-This movie was a non-stop Wrath of Khan homage. Not just the mid-control scorpion or actually showing Kirk cheating to beat the Unbeatable Test. The plot was very similar. Crazy maniac, armed with a planet-destroying bomb, wants revenge for the death of his wife and goes after a bunch of cadets to do it. And they quoted lots of lines from it too.

-Loved the homage to one of the funniest Trek bits of all time with Chekov saying "Wessels!"

-Scotty killed Porthos! Way to go dude. You just killed the best character on Enterprise. I would love to see a cameo by Bakula as Grandpa Archer in the next one. Have Kirk, Scotty, and Spock on trial for something and before any thing starts he starts banging his gavel "Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!", "But we haven't even started yet!" "I don't care! That Irish son of a bitch killed my dog! Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!".

I told you dudes a while ago that the old Porthos was going to be in the movie (of course I was just making it up). I am disappointed that it was just a reference and that we didn't see the old dog, but maybe in the next movie.

Why do so many people think this? Nero calls them Centaurian Slugs whereas Khan used Ceti Eels. The Centaurian Slug used the mouth to get to the brain; the Ceti Eel went through the ear. And they didn't even look the same!

Granted, it's an homage, but it's hardly the same animal.

I would have been happier if it were the same animal; honestly, how many plot-specific parasites that get inside people's bodies and make them act in just the right way does the Trek universe have, anyway? I guess if we ever need to make a Star Trek musical, we'll know how to explain it away:

NERO:
This is a Denevian ringworm; once inside the brain,
it attaches to the neocortex, where its secretions
activate the neurons responsible for music and rhythm.

[NERO holds CAPTAIN PIKE's mouth open and inserts the worm.
Against his will, PIKE proceeds to break it down.]

Spock makes the Picard-manouvre in the scene where Kirk and he meet for the first time (after the KM-test).

Oh, and it really sounds like Scotty says 'Captain Picard' in one of the scenes when the Enterprise is about to hit the reset-button... errr... is being pulled into the black hole ;)
