nods to previous treks *spoilers*

Should There Have Been Nods To TNG, DS9 & Voy?

Enterprise got a nod with the Admiral Archer and his Beagal (even though it probably was not actually Jonathan Archer and Porthos, but still..). Should there have been more nods to the othere series? I know Kirk had 1701-D on his pack on Delta Vega but i'm talking about something in the dialouge. Something subtle in Spocks flashback could have been done and also we could have relatives of some people kicking around.

Yes, Seven of Nine should have gone back in time instead of Spock. She should have had a sex scene too.

The movie takes place long before TNG, DS9, and VOY. So I wouldn't expect a nod to them, and if a nod took place, it might have felt forced and unnatural. So as much as I love those series, I'm probably happier without the nods.

Most of us love Trek's 24th century and even consider it "the ongoing present timeline" of the mythos, but it would have been terrible for the characters in this movie to constantly bump into great-great grandparents of those characters. How moronic would it have been to have such a coincidence that Kirk runs into Maurice Picard, Jermaine Sisko and Barry Riker.

Having read Countdown, I enjoyed the appearance of several TNG characters. That's pretty much all I needed.

I thought the mention of Cardassian Sunrise was a DS9/TNG reference, and Scottys friend looks like a mini-jemhadar. I wouldn't mind seeing more blatant ones though, but only if the oppurtunity presented itself - like if they ate at a restaurant, I'd like to see it called Siskos or them mention "the finest restaurant in New Orleans" for example.

The characters Tony Picard, Horatio Sisko and Eugene Chakotay were cut out.

I think a nifty way to pay a nod to DS9 would have been to put Morn in as the alien between Kirk and Uehora in the bar scene. Heck, the Alien looked like Morn, except it had a huge neck. Maybe Lorians live as long as Vulcans do.

Not sure how that could be executed in a way that wouldn't seem contrived and cheesy. The new movie had a lot of "throwbacks" to the fans-- the one thing I would have liked to see is more recognizable aliens on the ship (as opposed to weird looking new aliens).

I think the nod to TNG was the Kelvin uniforms with the shoulder things and the nod to VOY was Nero's Borg enhanced ship and DS9 was clearly the Cardasian reference Spock prime represents that whole timeline
