nods to previous treks *spoilers*

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

Yeah. That would make Archer, like, 150.

I know I'm a ST nerd for saying this, but wouldn't T'Pol have been one of the wise Vulcan people standing around singing Kumbaya in that cave? It would have been a good plug, cheaply done, and would have been a nice nod.

~String

What would the T'Pol reference be?

"The transporter accidentally took out the silicone in Ambassador T'Pol's breasts?"

cloned dog
new dog inherited its name
stuffed dog
really really old dog
genetically enhanced dog

pick one

I pick stuffed dog.

I got the impression that the dog is in the main hall of Starfleet Academy, or something, like a mascot.

Scotty figured he'd test on something that used to be alive before moving on to something that was actually live.

Just my impression, anyway.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

Yeah, it was probably Archer's son. This is still Star Trek, and everybody's kid goes into the family space business.

Scotty implied that the dog was alive, thus pretty well pissing off a sitting Admiral, thus the frozen hell with crappy rations assignment

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

I caught that reference and I couldn't help but smile. It shows that JJ Abrams not only tried to make this movie's origins in the old universes 24th century (the post-Nemesis era), but also acknowledged Enterprise. It was a nice little reference.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

Perhaps NX-01 was forced to make a long-duration sublight maneuver at close to the speed of light. After a month or so, years had gone by outside the ship and the crew suddenly found themselves the contemporaries of the next generation. Archer might not be so old, physically. T'Pol, Malcolm, Doctor Phlox, Mayweather, might all be relatively young still.

Except for Trip. 'Cause he's dead.

Especially since nepotism was probably the only reason Archer got command of the NX-01 in the first place. I didn't see much command talent there, let me tell you... :p

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

I have had hundreds of goldfish, all named Retard. Perhaps Archer did the same thing with beagles.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

"they tried too hard to bring ENT into this story. Archer would have been well on his way to 140 or more in this time and all that cloned dog, new dog whatever stuff negates the fact that no human could live to 140+ "

well i would like to point out that mccoy was in TNG ep 1x01
i believe he was like 137 (i looked it up) or so in that episode
so learn your shit before you complain about it! it is our archer!

so i believe that would be the same archer from ent, cool reference, and it could be archer's son

137 < 140.

I think that they should have had T'Pol as one of the Vulcans.

Also, Seven of Nine could have gone back in time with Spock.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

I think that Archer lived to see the launch of the Enterprise, so it might have been him. Although being an Admiral for 100 years would be rough.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

another thing since this topic has shifted to longevity in trek, wasn't the Enterprise 35 years old or so at the beginning of TOS? (which could explain the visual differences in the movie Enterprise and TOS Enterprise, 35 years of re-fits, probably at the end of every 5 year mission, so about 7 re-fits, new deck plating, nacells, engines, display systems ect.)

Interesting that in the refits it went from really good looking to weird/unwieldy/antiquated looking and changed in shape.

Budget cuts would explain some things.

nah, he was probably just a figurehead by then

He just rolled around on a scooter with Porthos VIII, telling about how hard things were in his time.

"We only had Warp 5 and we were damn proud to have it. Then we had to rub gel on ourselves after missions, I'll tell you what, those were some good times."

Then he just starts droning on about how the Vulcans control the media.

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

I figured because it was an experiment, and he had acess to Archer's dog, tha Archer taught at the academy (and BTW I love Pegg's Scotty)

Incidently, ENT fans should probbaly keep in mind that it was quite possible that T'Pol was killed on Vulcan ;)

Hell, it goes deeper than that ... more than likely, every Vulcan we've ever met besides Spock and Sarek is gone. No T'Pau, T'Pol, T'Pring, or T'Lar. Tuvok's parents are dead, as are Dr. Selar's grandparents. That whole DS9 baseball team. Sybok. Gone.

Even that little smiley dude ... :vulcan: ... he's probably dead, too.

I was coming to post this. Except I am pretty sure that T'Pau must have been in that cave along with the other Vulcan High Council members. After all, she was a very revered figure in Amok Time (she even got Starfleet to let the Enterprise crew get away scot free after disobeying an order and getting Spock to Vulcan). Wether she makes it out of the cave or not I am not sure.
