Noah's ark found

^ 65 years of ice is one thing but 4000 years of it is another. That would be like comparing a pebble with a boulder.

Sorry. I didn't explain myself very well. I keep forgetting I can't do that.

The smaller more dense an object the better it will be preserved. An airplane or a mastodon is small enough that it would be able to move with the ice shelf's "plastic flow" without significant damage. A large object, like the supposed size of the Ark, would be more likely subjected to torsional stresses as the ice moved. Since this object is hollow and would take years of "percolation" to fill the internal structure with ice (this is a water tight boat after all), the weight of the ice above would probably cause it to collapse in on itself. (And if we want to argue about weight I would like to point out something called "isostatic rebound". This is where the glacier or ice sheet is so heavy it compresses the mantle under the crust which rebounds back after the glacier has melted or retreated. That is one heavy chunk of ice.) I am not saying all objects would be crushed. I am simply postulating that an ark of that size and great age would probably have not moved with the glacier intact for 4000 years. Again, we are comparing a pebble (the plane) with a boulder (the ark). Of course this is my own hypothesis based on the evidence and should not be taken as my stating a fact. Unlike most people I know that an opinion can not be a fact, no matter how hard you try to make it one.

To be specific to the topic and my previous post, the claims made by those people in the 1980's were based on a satellite image of a large intact man-made structure under the ice. (They even had a small picture of the image in the information they sent my dad. You could supposedly see the structural beam work in an "enhanced image". I wonder if he kept any of that?) I was just saying, given the movement of the ice and the size of the object, it couldn't possibly be intact. Speaking of satellite pictures, yesterday I read about another claim in the late 80's where they had found a large rectangular area of ice that was a different color than the surrounding accumulation. This was also at the top of the mountain and couldn't have possibly been the ark. It would have been carried much farther down slop over 4000 years. It was later proved to be nothing more than a rock formation.

And here is more about glaciers if anyone wants to read about them.

One question. Now that apparently evangelicals think radiometric dating is a good and reliable tool when it tells them that some wood is 4800 years old will they believe it when radiometric dating tells them that objects are older then 6000 years old?

Boom. Headshot (in a metaphorical sense, of course.)

Thank you.

Or that the Shroud of Turin is a forgery created in the 13th or 14th century.

Actually, They were only allowed to take small samples of the shroud, and it is believed that the shroud was repaired during the 13th-14th century and these samples were taken from this repaired area.

I'm not a christian but until they do some sort of full testing, I'm not sure what to believe.

Having a Religious Education teacher for a mum is awesome.. not

Hasn't someone 'found' the Ark every few years for the past several decades?

Truth. I remember when 'Noah's ark' was found on Mount Ararat in the 80s.

It was a franchise. Noah expanded a bit, did some advertising, and made a fleet. :)

Maybe Noah's was the Starbuck's or Krispy Kreme of the prehistory era. On Mt. Ararat, there was one on every corner.

"Wait out the flood in one of our 300 locations."

The Chinese have a myth about Nüwa who repaired heaven to save the Earth from a flood. However, Nüwa was a female deity, not a male shipwright.

Noah's the back-up plan. If Nuwa can fix heaven and stop the flood, great. If not... "yeah, better break out the ark, Noah".
Perhaps it was like Green Lantern Corps. There was a Noah in every sector. :rommie:

that's not quite what the article you linked says.

.

Ummmm....

The Article I Linked said:
"You have to take everything out of context except the Bible to get something tolerable, and they're not even working much with the Bible," said Paul Zimansky, an archaeologist and historian at Stony Brook University who specializes in the Near East - and especially the region around Ararat, known as Urartu.

Cornell archaeologist Peter Ian Kuniholm, who has focused on Turkey for decades, was even more direct - saying that the reported find is a "crock."

...

The article I linked said:
"We know what's going on with Turkey archaeologically at that time, and there's no major interruption in the culture," Zimansky observed.

"There's not enough H2O in the world to get an ark that high up a mountain," Kuniholm said.

Kuniholm has had to deal with repeated claims from ark-hunters, including claims based on purported discoveries of ancient wood, and it sounds as if he's starting to get sick of it. He expects the latest report will end up in his thick file of ark discoveries that end up going nowhere.

"These guys have already gotten the answer worked out ahead of time," he said, "and then they go out to prove it."

How long is it in cubits?

Bill Cosby as God: 'Get some wood and build it 300 cubits, by 80 cubits, by 40 cubits.'

Noah (Cosby): 'Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. What's a cubit?'

God: 'A cubit, yeah, uhhh, well I used to know what a cubit was, uhhh... Well, don't worry about that Noah, because when you get that done, go out in the world and collect all of the animals in the world by two, and put them... INTO THE ARK.'

Noah: 'Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.' *Pause*
'Who is this, really????'

:p :guffaw:

Classic!

Noah: where did I leave my boat
God: Have I not told you not to drink and boat on the same nite you might crash?
Noah: yeah but it was fermentation season.
God: I have struck down your boat so you must make a new one...
Noah: phewy but, what should I call that boat?
God: Earth, we will call the new-ark Earth :)
Noah: Hold up God Newark is in NJ they say it is the armpit of the world :(
God: Noah you have been too long at sea.
