Niners Unite...around Babylon 5! - The Continuing Arc

i just watched sleeping in light again. I believe I have seen the whole series from season one to season five about five times now.

Sleeping in light, in my opinion, is one of the best season finales in all scifi television. The death of both Sheridan and Babylon 5 was perfectly alligned. Many would think the episode is to mouchy, but i honesly believe it was a very moving piece of television. The two scenes that caught me most were firstof the scene between Delenn and Sheridan before he went on his sunday drive and when the last ship with the cast in it, leave Babylon 5 and all the other races ships sway in their direction, before the station is destroyed.

babylon 5 was a show with alot of content and the finale really was a salute to it. A great ending to a great show.

Deconstruction of Falling Stars

After such an amazing episode, it's only natural that I would be a little let down by this one. Truthfully, I've never cared for fake-documentary episodes on any television series. I like the idea of this episode (it looked like a strong season ender on paper) but the execution leaves much to be desired. Honestly, almost all the episode is effectively driven home by the final scene with Sheridan and Delenn. I think JMS could have just made his point with that scene, but instead he spends the whole episode doing so. Which leaves me with a resounding "meh." Hopefully season five doesn't waste it's time with more episodes like this.

Still, as a whole, season four was very good. Not as spectacular as season three, but all in all still very good.

Be warned that there are a number of stand-alone episodes in Season 5 and just as off-format as DoFS. As for
I hate to tell you this but the *entire series* is shown to be a "documentary" at the end.

^^
I already knew that part, which I have mixed feelings about. However, as long as there's not too much more footage shot in a fake documentary style, I'll be okay with it. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Very little is done in that format. Even so.... one doesn't have to view the entire series that way, despite the series' closing credits. Take it in the manner that you like best. Enjoy it for what it is and remember it for what it was. ;)

Speaking of myself, does anyone here have any good tips on when/where I can find the rest of Babylon 5 (seasons 1-3, 5, movies, Crusade, LOTR) on the cheap? My budget is pretty limited, but I'm trying to share the B5 universe with another and can't very well do that with just season four on DVD.

I've always been happy with DeepDiscountDvd.com.

That is the results of the first search I did, and it brought up just about everything you've mentioned here. Each for about $40, which in itself is about as good a price as you're going to find.

^^
I've found most of the season for a little less used (season four was 28 bucks). Damn. I guess I'll have to save up a little bit of money before I grab the whole series. Thanks, Neroon.

No problem. Always glad to help.

I just watched "Into the Fire" and "No Surrender, No Retreat" with my daughter this evening. Who knows how much longer she'll want to keep doing that, so... how could I refuse?

This is a great show to watch with other fans, for sure

Intersections In Real Time
This is my single best episode of Babylon 5 (so far).

certainly my favorite episode of the show. of course my favorite episode of TNG was Chain of Command, and in DS9, it was Hard Time

so yeah, i'm basically fucked up in the head.

My favourite episode of TNG is Frame Of Mind. Although, not really an interrogation episode, it was similar in tone and weirdness.

The Very Long Night Of Londo Mollari
This was a great episode. I'm not sure what some things mean (like Sheridan's light-speed wardrobe changes), but it was very good. Any episode dealing this heavily on my two favourite characters, Londo and G'Kar, will always be a favourite of mine. Nice to see Londo get redeemed some more. Will G'Kar and Londo be even more friendly with each other now? Seeing Lennier leave to join the Rangers was a bit of a shock. He seems a little jealous of Sheridan. I can see Lennier turning bad later in the season. Wouldn't that be interesting?

The Paragon Of Animals
This episode didn't elicit too much of a reaction in me. There were some good parts, like G'Kar's reading of the Declaration of Principles (everything Katsulas reads sounds awesome), Londo and G'Kar's friendly joking around, and the Drazi being the villains of the story. But when I think back on this episode, the only thing that may have far reaching consequences is Lyta joining Byron's little telepath cult. And where the hell is Lochley? Haven't seen her since the first episode. In fact, we haven't seen C&C since the first episode. Is Babylon 5 in Season 5 less about the station and more about the politics of the Alliance?

Re: First time impressions from the Babylon 5 virgin

I'd say that's a fair assessment. Less station, more politics but... it's not overly so.

Re: First time impressions from the Babylon 5 virgin

To save money not all of the actors are in every ep. there's plenty of eps. over the years that we dont' see G'Kar, Londo, Lennier, Vir(Of course he left to be on another series that was quickly cancelled) Marcus and Lockley, they just did a better job of hiding that fact in the earlier seasons.

Re: First time impressions from the Babylon 5 virgin

^^
I think the problem with Lochley is that a) she's new (and is longing for introduction as a character) and b) she's the Captain who you'd expect to get quite a bit of screen time. Sinclair and Sheridan did so you'd expect the same. I do feel that the fact we didn't see her very often was one (of several things) that hurt S5 as a whole.

I don't think JMS had much choice money wise, but I think it's the reason why she's a regular on Crusade though and she's in the last two B5 movies.

That may be true but in the end, all we can judge by is what's on screen.

Re: First time impressions from the Babylon 5 virgin

Lochley isn't exactly one of the favorite characters amongst most fans, but.... she does have a few interesting[/i] moments in S5, as well as in "River of Souls". ;)

I always felt that Lochley the character got a lot of negative feelings coming off of the loss of Ivanova. I liked her from the get-go and a lot of others have changed their minds about her once there was some distance from the upset over Claudia/Ivanova.
