Nicholas Meyer Confirms Upcoming 4K UHD Release Plans for STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

Well, I could always buy it, and then wait for someone else to rip and post it on a torrent site and download from there. I've done that kind of thing before.

There's plenty of freeware out there for you to rip it yourself as well.

I agree, it's odd it doesn't include a digital copy. This is the only Blu Ray I've purchased without one, it's a rule for me.

Edit: I am not advocating ripping it and putting it on a torrent site, I am suggesting making his own legal, digital back up instead of torrenting it.

I don't have a blu-ray drive to read the disc. The only reason I'd buy this is so my conscience is clear when I find an online source to download from--the disc itself would be a paperweight.
Okay, guys, just a heads up. Don't discuss illegal stuff here. This is a friendly caution. Thank you very much.

That's not what we're talking about, wayoung. We're dealing with torrent sites, okay?
Except you quoted my reply where I told him to rip his own disc instead of using torrent sites for a digital copy. I even added a bit at the bottom specifying that.

It's part of the conversation, wayoung and I needed to be clear about not discussing certain things.

Let me ask anyone who has seen it.. did they get rid of that "blue" effect from the last blue ray?

Yes. It's not as red as the DVD, but supposedly the DVD's tones were so warm because it was mastered for CRT screens. The Blu-ray is about as close to the theatrical presentation as you'll get, according to multiple sources.

Finally able to watch the disc, although without the Final Frontier beer I wanted as it is sold out :(

I stand corrected regarding that duplicate shot of Sulu and the viewscreen. I figured it would be hardly noticeable but, wow, does it ever stand out.

I'm also noticing some softness to the image, but I'm wondering if that's my eyes being tired and not the disc itself.

The surround sound is fantastic. I believe it's been said it's the same sound mix as the previous disc but I never dse the old blu ray disc so it is new to me. I'm hearing sounds I never heard before, such as Kirk's birthday where the clock is ominously ticking in the background and the fire is cackling off to the right. These little subtle noises are excellent, as are the bigger sounds.

I'mnstill early in the movie yet.

Edit: I wonder if it's the higher quality of the picture or a random coincidence but I'm picking up a lot of little continuity errors that I've never noticed before. Nothing movie breaking, just strange that im noticing them now and not in any of my past viewings.

That stair climbing bit is kinda weird without the "That's my son" exchange.

My God, these ship models are beautiful. Even today CGI can't match them imo.

So I went and picked up my copy from apparently the only brick-and-mortar store in my whole state that carries it (what's up with that?)

So far it looks and sounds pretty nice.

...except for that erroneous shot in the Kobayashi Maru scene.

I've seen theatrical TWOK and the ABC and/or DVD Director's Cut probably about 50 times each. So, even though the little differences are "noticeable" to me...none of it bothers me per se, because I've seen it enough the other way(s) so many times that my mind makes up the differences. In a way, I actually appreciate the differences...it's a curiosity added to a movie that I otherwise know almost too well.

The new presentation is beautiful...sound and picture are about as good as they are going to get. That was $14.99 well-spent, to say the least.

should i buy this or wait for Paramount to fix it?

Up to you. I found that glitch distracting but am still happy with my purchase. The quality of the rest of the disc more than makes up for it.

If Paramount fixes it there is a rumour they will run a disc exchange so even if you bought it now you can return it for a corrected disc.

Alternatively, you can wait to see if they fix the disc and start selling it, but then if they don't fix it you could be waiting a long time and end up with the same disc if you bought it today.

Agreed. Frankly, the shot is such a minor thing that it's really not worth forgoing the Blu-Ray for. At least in my book. Does it stand out? Yeah, a bit, but it's pretty minor overall.
