We'd nail Paramount if they did that since it would essentially be discrediting Nicholas Meyer. There is nothing that anyone, not even Nicholas Meyer can say about this mastering mistake that would justify it was based on a practical creative choice. Even if Nicholas Meyer said he didn't want to see Sulu turning around, he could have taken what was on the screen during Sulu's line instead of the 'course change' screen from earlier. That also doesn't fix the little detail that Sulu is turned around in the very next shot.Excellent, I half expected Paramount to claim it was a directors choice.
What does it add though? Spock never refers to David being Kirk's son or uses that information in any way during the remainder of the film. I'm not saying he shouldn't know, but does it actually matter if he does? (The theatrical cut does just fine without it.)as the former is something that adds (mildly) to the story whereas the former is just a goof
Is the glitchy shot online somewhere? I checked youtube but couldn't find it. I'm just curious how noticeable it is.
Also, what's the new documentary like? Worth it or just a bunch of promo stuff glued together?
