Nicholas Meyer Confirms Upcoming 4K UHD Release Plans for STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

What makes you think it's an error? From that Trek Core article, it sounds as if it was a deliberate alteration made my Nicholas Meyer, just like the deletion of the two lines in the turbo shaft.
The fact that it is on the theatrical cut too, that it creates a continuity error, and because it's just a repeated shot from moments earlier.

And I don't agree that TrekCore implies it's an intentional change.

[...]from the Kobayashi Maru simulation that opens the film – an apparent editing error in the early moments of the movie.[...]it seems that the editing team on the remaster may have accidentally re-used the same over-the-shoulder shot from before the Kobayashi Maru was even detected.

I'm pretty sure TrekCore has revised their post; originally, unless I'm mistaken, they suggested it was the director's choice.

I see ... so let's hope they are going to correct this, and add the turbo shaft lines back in while they're at it!

Hmm, my pre-order went from out of stock to in stock estimated ship date yesterday, to in stock but no estimated ship time...

Edit : the price is jumping around a lot too, fro $17 when I ordered to $23 yesterday and back to $17 today.

Maybe there's a problem at the distributor.

So... What lines were deleted from the turboshaft scene?

I have to admit, I kind of like it without the lines.

There are many things I don't like about certain movies, but I wouldn't want them to be changed. Movies are a product of their time and should be treated with respect. Restoring scenes that were previously cut for whatever reason is one thing, but deleting scenes or lines is inacceptable ... at least to me, it is.

The worst offender in the Star Trek world is the TMP DE ... why everyone wants an HD version of this atrocity is beyond me.

I like this scene being in the director's cut, but without the lines, it's just padding (and maybe even with the lines). Spock already said the turbolifts were inoperative, and it kind of kills the pacing. "Best we could do in two hours" is a nice note to end on before cutting to the exterior shot and the music crescendo.

Kirk: That young man is my son!
Spock: Fascinating!
Ah, yes... from what I remember, Nimoy's reading of the line seemed a bit odd.
But I could be remembering wrong.

I don't remember those lines being in any home video edition of TWOK until the Director's Edition DVD, and it kind of seemed like padding to me. We already get plenty of other indications that David is Kirk's son.

We're all of us different. As long as the theatrical cut is preserved, they can make alternate versions of any film ever made as far as I'm concerned.

BillJ was asking for a link to the announcement of the UHD release.

Oh... I just quoted part of the title of this thread and put an emoticon after signifying what I thought of the whole thing (excitement). I have no link, sorry. :-/

That's exactly the point ... neither the Theatrical Cut nor the DC of TWOK have been preserved the way they should be. The first BD was too blue, the new BD has the Sulu Problem ... and the DC is missing two lines.

Of course, I could always go back to the old DVDs or the iTunes version of the DC ... but I would have liked the two versions on BD, cleaned up and color corrected with nothing else changed. But well ... I guess I was too optimistic regarding this new BD, and now the disappointment hits me even harder. I should have known, though.

Very likely they sre replacing the bad discs. Bill Hunt at Digitalbits says he is certain.
So unless those two lines are make or break with you, it should get solved.

I still hope they put those two lines back in while they're at it ... I know, silly me ... :scream:
