Nicholas Meyer Confirms Upcoming 4K UHD Release Plans for STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

For something of a series finale, It would have been too much. Saavik as a character was a breath of fresh air when she appeared in TWOK and it didn't feel shoe horned in at all. She was capable and smart when matched with the original crew while still leaving some areas that we could have been further developed.

And on a more personal note, Star Trek didn't need to screw over another female character. I know Valeris falls under that as well. But unlike Valeris, I still want to see more of Saavik. If STVI ended with Saavik being the traitor, that would have been the end of it.
Well, considering that they didn't really end up doing much with Saavik beyond TWOK and wrote her out of the movies altogether with TVH, I'm fine with something that gives her character an ending, even if it's not the ending that we might have wished for her.

If they had actually kept the 'half Romulan' bit about Saavik instead of abandoning it then I could have seen her as the traitor working in 6, otherwise it would have been off the wall awful.

I don't see that bit of background as strictly necessary for the character to be a traitor. After all, Valeris wasn't half-Romulan. The point was to show that some people can't overcome their prejudices and that logic can be used to justify some pretty heinous things, both of which are pretty provocative ideas to include in a Star Trek story.

But we're getting off topic. Sorry for the digression! :)

I took a quick look at a friend's copy of it today. The consensus was that it was nice but there was still a blue tinge to shots, such as shots of Regula.

Neil

Regula is grayish.
Sometimes it appears reddish or bluish depending on what colors the nebula is throwing on it at any given time. I have seen online pictures from a 1983 calendar, released in fall 1982---that clearly show one side of Regula as red and the side facing away from the nebula as gray.
I always thought Regula was red-brown at all times, but it is not the case. They got the color right this time.

Has anyone posted a shot of the Enterprise leaving Regula, that was changed from red to blue on the Blu-ray disc?

Lot's of new reviews out last night. Hoping people will post here with their thoughts as they get their copies. I see one person above saying their friend received a copy already.

Got my copy on Sat, June 4--the 34th anniversary exactly (from best Buy)
I've watched it twice--once to just view it in hi-def for the first time and the 2nd to compare to the DVD.

Stunning.

Out of curiosity, did you pre order online and it was shipped early or did you come across it in store early? The demand must be higher than anticipated, I put my order in to Amazon yesterday and have a delivery date of June 17.

I can't wait until July when I can watch this and then go outside and fly the airhog USS Enterprise's quadcopter (assuming it comes out in July in Canada).

My friend pre-ordered two copies online and we got them Saturday.

He got his Deadpool on Saturday from them too!

Crap, my copy still says "Preparing For Shipment" on Amazon -- and I'm supposed to get it tomorrow or Wednesday. Not doubting it'll get here within a day or two, just that I'd hoped to have it tomorrow after I get back from an out-of-state conference. Looks like Wednesday, then.

No hurry, the disc is defective anyway. See new June 7 article at Trekcore---they deleted a shot and replaced it with the wrong one.

Paramount 100% consistent

Yes, the unexplained "pillarboxing" of the opening credits of TSFS----Who the f...makes that mistake but Paramount?

Jeez, there's always gotta be something huh? Sure, it's a brief error but it's still an error. Paramount, don't screw me on this now. Step up and fix your mistake.

Whew, I went to that article thinking it was movie breaking, but it appears to be one quick cut during the Kobayashi Maru has missing text on the background of the viewscreen. Not a single pro reviewer noticed it, including the ones at Trek sites, so while it's a little disappointing that it is there I doubt I would have even known if I hadn't read that article.

I wonder if that error is on both cuts, or just the DC?

What makes you think it's an error? From that Trek Core article, it sounds as if it was a deliberate alteration made my Nicholas Meyer, just like the deletion of the two lines in the turbo shaft.

I wish they had never let Meyer touch this movie again ... colour correction was all it needed!
