NFL Football 2009

Well, the Packers/ Ravens game just ended. Very defense oriented battle and very sloppy game. Tied the record for second most total penalty yards in a game with 310. Lots of turn overs. The Ravens were looking like the Chiefs with all the passes they were dropping. Mostly an entertaining game though.

A Raven loss works for me because Denver now has a 1 game lead over the Jags and a 2 game lead over everyone else for the wild card spot. This guarentees Denver a berth for the next two weeks, regardless of Sunday's outcome. And, barring a disaster, that's all they'll need... I have a hard time imagining too much resistance beyond the Colts for the last 4 weeks (though Philly could always shock).

What a shit game we played tonight. The D hung tough for the first half, but just wore down. The offense had 0 bright points. All I can hope for out of this season now is that our week 15 game against the Steelers keeps them out of the playoffs.

Fuck.

Dude, in one of my fantasy leagues (from a different board), I was down by like 0.75 points at the two-minute warning of tonight's game. I had the Green Bay defense, so that last sack to end the game gave me one more point and the win.

i'm a san diego fan, but i don't think anyone can catch the colts so I am cheering for them to beat your team....by the way, i like ortin better than cutler, so no matter how your season turns out, I think you did the right thing letting cutler go..

Green Bay's win certainly came as a relief. Had we lost, we would have been in a pretty bad position vs. the Giants for a wild card spot. So I'm glad we've managed to keep one step ahead.

On the other hand though, I don't ever want to see that many penalties again. We got away with it this time only because Baltimore managed to screw it up even more than we did. I hope The Pack realizes they can't count on that to save their asses in the playoffs.

Yikes! 310 yards in penalties. Both the Ravens and the Packers were sloppy, but the refs seemed to be hell-bent on calling everything. It was kind of like a baseball ump having a tight strike zone- no room to maneuver at all.

I'm thrilled that the Packers won, but that was an ugly game.

The Packers special teams are atrocious. The offense has trouble staying in any sort of rhythm, still some issues with protection. Instead of killing drives with sacks we just do it with holding penalties to prevent the sacks. I guess that's an upgrade. Defense has been pretty good but I'm a little worried about how Tramon feels he needs to grab the receivers arm on damned near every play. I love Matthews and his motor never stopping I'm a Golden Retreiver schtick. Some of the penalties were ticky tacky, but in general I think the bad calls broke a little more in our favor tonight. Kind of an ugly win, would have loved to have seen the Packers take that 17-0 halftime lead and run straight down the Ravens' throats.

Here's to hoping that a drubbing of the listless Bears is in store for Sunday. We're in good shape for the Wild Card and I look forward to watching a couple of those NFC East contenders kick the snot out of each other next week. We have a one game lead, the weakest schedule out of the top wild card contenders, and a head to head tie breaker on Dallas. Life ain't half bad.

Philly is 8-4 and on a three game winning streak. How would them beating Denver at home be a "shock"?
Because from what I've watched of them (admittedly, not an incredible amount), they haven't been particularly impressive. The few wins I've seen, it has seemed like they've played badly and the other team has played worse. If Denver plays like they did the first six weeks and the last two weeks, I don't expect much trouble.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 7-5 and in contention for a wildcard spot. :wtf: Um....I love my team, but how the fuck is this possible?

any given sunday dude..

That Pats-Jags game I have tickets to in a couple weeks is starting to look more and more like it may mean something.

I was hoping for another bloodletting in the snow.

LOL...the PATS may be imploding..but really, they are in transition. Trust me, as a Charger fan, I do not want any part of the Patriots. Just as we have the Colt's number, the Patriots have ours. Even a depleted Patriot team worries me because of Brady/Bellichick...but I think the Jags might pull that one off!!!

Dude, Philly is no pushover. You think you'll go in to their stadium and beat one of the better teams in the NFL unless something 'shocking' happens? You're deluded. Don't act like Denver is some sort of juggernaut that can only beat themselves.

Ray Rice is also throwing questionable comments out there. Dude, shut up, the stadium is great... and since when is Baltimore some sort of Shangri-la anyway?

Oh, and the NFL has moved Packers/Steelers to the afternoon slot, thus ensuring that once again the Green Bay game won't be aired in San Diego. I'm pretty sick of that crap.

Hopefully the Pats will get a weather advantage if it's sloppy that day. Always nice to see a hot weather team come in and get affected by it.

The Pats, assuming they hang on, are relegated to being the 4 seed. They would likely get Denver at home first, and if they win there, the suits at CBS would cream their shorts over a Pats-Colts rematch.

Funny how they went from 'back and tough as ever' after the Colts game to 'a team in transition with serious question marks' a couple weeks later.

My thought is they'll win a playoff game, then lose against one of the big boys on the road the next week.

Philly is no push over, to be sure. But losing to the Raiders, even when Jamarcus Russell was still the QB??? Not good. And just like the other two NFC power-houses, Dallas/Giants, the Eagles are showing how up/down they are. They are not as consistant as they were, and not having Westbrook is key.

If the Pats win that game, and I'm guessing they will, I doubt you'll see as complete a dominating performance as the one they hung on the Titans earlier this year. That one brought new meaning to the phrase "epic fail!"

Or 'epic win!' depending on who you were rooting for. The last 2 games I've attended were the 47-7 snow bowl over the Cardinals last year, and the 59-0 beatdown during the freak October snowstorm this year.

If want a blowout and 6" of snow, I'm the man you need to be sure is at the game.

I never said Denver was an unbeatable juggernaut. I said that the games I watched Philly win, Philly played pretty badly, the other team just played worse. I admittedly don't follow the Eagles, and I probably missed the games where they looked like a good team. But based on what I have watched (check my original quote, I even said it there too), they didn't look like anything to worry about if Denver plays well.

Trust me, I'm no Eagles fan. But I think they're easily a favorite at home against the Broncos. Going out west to play the Raiders is a bit of a 'trap' game, it happens every year to some team that should blow the Raiders out. Denver lost to the Redskins. All the other losses by both Philly and Denver were against decent teams, but Philly tended to be more competitive.

I'm sure I'll be cheering for Denver in the game when it comes because of my NFC Wildcard considerations, but I think Philly wins it 70% of the time.

I dunno, the Jaguars are 5-1 at home, but 2-4 away this year, and we have never won in New England. I doubt it'll be as bad as Pats/Titans, but the Jags will be coming off yet another brutal Colts game. I do think it'll be interesting!
