NFL Football 2009

Holy crap.

That injury to Henderson was Theisman-esque.

I hope he's going to be okay.

Man, Arizona is on top of their shit right now.

If Indy wins against Denver next week, they clinch homefield advantage throughout the playoffs:

That would leave three more weeks of regular season games, with nothing on the line except the possibility of being the first team since the '72 Dolphins with a perfect season. However, it looks like Polian is advocating that they simply rest players rather than risk injury in pursuit of a perfect season:

Several upsets today. My favorite was seeing the overconfident Vikings implode against the Cardinals.

Hated seeing the Giants win. I rarely root for Dallas, but wild card-wise, it would have helped the Packers if the Cowboys had won.

Go Pack!!!

Watching the Cardinals stick it to Brett Favre was quite enjoyable. :techman:

Hated to see Favre have that kind of game, but that was one impressive performance by the Cardinals all the way around. I like the SI.com headline: "Don't Forget About Us" -

I didn't mind seeing the Cowboys lose when folks like Flozell Adams pull that kind of cowardly crap he did at half-time...... they deserve it. But that was a good, well-played game by the Giants

Arguably one of the best fans in the league passed away today, Tim McKernan, aka Barrel Man to the Denver Broncos died in his sleep this morning.

I remember him over the years, wearing nothing but his barrel in all kinds of weather. He did it initially on a $10 bet that by wearing a barrel at the game, he could get on TV.

After he retired, his seats in the new stadium were about 5 rows in front of my sister's. I saw him at the games I went to.

RIP Barrel Man.

RIP Barrel Man. He was more of a face for the Broncos than Miles is, in my opinion. :(
He was an iconic fan and will be missed. RIP Barrel Man.

San Diego SUPERCHARGERS...

Oh, I would so love a CHARGERS/SAINTS match up in the superbowl. Could happen. No one gave the Giants a chance to be the Patriots two years ago; might happen again with a Chargers/Saints bowl...

With my luck, they'll just re-hire Terry Shea.

At which point I'll begin hoping that al Qaeda sees Halas Hall as a target of opportunity.

A win tonight puts the Packers in a pretty solid wild card position. Ravens are probably better than their record indicates though. Still, it's a cold weather home game that we should be able to win merely by containing that midget and running a balanced offense. Too bad about the Giants beating Dallas. Here's hoping the Eagles bury them next week.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 7-5 and in contention for a wildcard spot. :wtf: Um....I love my team, but how the fuck is this possible?

Well, 10-6 seems to be the magic number (in most cases) before a wild card becomes almost impossible. As for your team being 7-5, they received a gift from the scheduling gods. Every victory except one is against teams with losing records, and the one exception is still only a .500 team. Those slaughters at the hands of Seattle and San Fran do make you wonder though...

For the rest of the league... Yay Denver!! Between last week and this week, there are definately indications that the ship has been righted. I'm still expecting a loss against Indy this coming week, but I think Denver can give them a good show if the right Denver shows up. The rest of the season should be pretty easy.

New Orleans was given a huge gift. Absolutely no way that down-by-contact ruling should have been overturned at the end of the game. I'm having a hard time imagining how the ref could have possibly screwed that up. One angle showed that the ball might have come out and the other angle clearly showed that he was down first. As someone who was rooting for New Orleans, I'm calling bull. At least on the Denver fumble last season, that was an honest mistake that (at the time) there was nothing that could have been done about it. But the ref was under the hood for the better part of the afternoon in this case, and I can't imagine where that call came from.

Lots of surprising scores yesterday.... Miami over New England?!? Oakland over anyone?!? Arizona over Minnesota?!? Philly blowing out the Falcons?!? The Bears not throwing a single "Cutler" (I still love the new name! )?!? Many upsets; it kinda shocking.

I can't believe my luck this weekend. I have five football teams which I root against with a passion in the high school, college and NFL ranks:

- Maryville (TN) High School Rebels
- University of Florida Gators
- New England Patriots
- Dallas Cowboys
- Pittsburgh Steelers

Saturday:
Maryville lost the Class 6A state championship game to White Station (Memphis, TN), 37-27. It wasn't even THAT close. Florida loses that same night to Alabama, 32-13 in the SEC title game. It really WAS that bad. As if that weren't enough, Tim Tebow is shown crying at the end. Perfect!

Sunday:
N.Y. Giants 31, Dallas 24
Miami 22, New England 21
Oakland 27, Pittsburgh 24

I must say, I'm shocked beyond belief. I can't remember the last time all five teams lost in the same weekend!
