NFL 2021 season - Belichick Strikes Back

Speaking of giving up picks for someone who never played for them, here's something that happened. There was an unheralded, lowly-drafted QB named Greg Barton who sat on the Lions bench for three seasons (NFL stats: 1 attempt, 0 completions). The Eagles were so enamored with Barton they traded two 2s and a 3rd for him in 1971, even though he was about to become a free agent. They also traded away starting QB Norm Snead to the Giants (where he made the Pro Bowl). Barton was actually looking forward to getting a chance to play, until he met owner Leonard Tose and thought something was very wrong with the organization. So he decided to take more money to play for the Toronto Argonauts instead.

That needs to be a Netflix series.

Did you see the story about the fake school that conned their way onto ESPN where their winless football team played a national powerhouse and lost 58-0? Turns out they also paid for their hotel by bouncing two bad checks. And the head coach (who has been fired) has an active bench warrant on him. Other high schools have since canceled their games with them.

So in one of the last pre-season games, one of the announcers mentioned that there will be no overtime this season.

Is this true? If so, that seems a rather odd omission to me.

Ah! That makes sense then. Although I could have sworn that, when the announcer was talking about it, he was specifically referring to a “new rule” for the season. Oh, well. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

It is a new rule - there used to be overtime in the preseason, now there's not. Makes sense - who wants to risk further injury to players in pointless preseason games?

I actually agree with Tom Brady...

"If you're a quarterback you gotta protect yourself and your players," Brady said. "It shouldn't be the responsibility of your opponent to protect you. It creates really bad habits for players because you feel like 'I can basically do anything. I can run and not slide, I can throw my receiver into any coverage and not have any repercussion for it.' The only thing they're gonna do is they're actually going to blame the defensive player for making a good solid hit, and now the defensive player is going to feel like, 'Oh I can't do that,' even though I feel like it was an offensive mistake.

Tyrod Taylor is the Texans starting QB, backed up by rookie Davis Mills.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is also on the Texans' 53-man roster but is expected to be a healthy scratch on game days for Houston. Watson, who requested a trade in January, faces 22 civil lawsuits with allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior.

The quarterback is not expected to play for Houston in 2021 despite the fact he has not been restricted from taking part in team activities or playing in games by the NFL.

The man should watch out if he sees any team doctors walking around with chainsaws!

You always need a Good offensive line, or... :wah:

Well Gentlemen,

The High Holy Season is upon us. Let us pause and give thanks to the Football Gods for this glorious time.

May your starters be healthy, may replays go your way, and may your hearts prepared for crushing defeats.
