NFL 2017 Season

Colts dump Chuck Pagano and are now in the market for an offensive-minded coach to realize Luck's potential. The question is, how sure is it that Luck comes back stronger, if at all?

Yeah, I don't think the Colts job is all that attractive even with Andrew Luck.

Well I'm surprisingly upbeat following the Raiders' very disappointing 6-10 season. That, of course, is owing entirely to the firing of Jack Del Rio, something I've been advocating, and the reports that we might be hiring Jon Gruden.

Del Rio, IMO, was never much of a head coach. The 12-4 season in 2016 was due more to a weak schedule and prolific offense, run by Herb Musgrave, who Del Rio fired, than JDR's coaching acumen. He then promoted Todd Downing to OC, his next biggest mistake, and the offense crumbled soon after. Del Rio hired Ken Norton Jr. as DC, a coach that Pete Carroll passed over for a less experienced coach when hiring a DC in Seattle. Norton Jr. has to be one of the least creative and reactionary DC's in the NFL in a long time.

My hope is that we finalize a deal with Gruden as soon as possible. He has shown that he can win at the highest levels in the NFL. I have always joked that Gruden is the only HC to take two teams to the Super Bowl in the same season, since he basically built the 2003 Raiders and was at the helm of the Bucs in that same year.

Jim Caldwell is out in Detroit, which I am okay with, but the team needs more offensive weapons around Stafford or we're going to be stuck in mediocrity for a long time.

I guess he could just walk out on the field and take a dump on the 50 yard line. It wouldn’t matter.

Vance Joseph gets a pass from jolly old Saint Elway and lives to fight another season. J.E. admits that Joseph wasn't given enough resources from management to succeed this year. Heh...that's an understatement. Maybe he'll start acting like a GM again.

Is that better or worse than where the Browns are stuck? Of course, most other teams would do a better job with repeated #1 picks.

Mike Brown would figure out a way to monetize it.

I feel bad for Bengals fans, at least another two years of mediocrity coming up. :scream:

It's already known who Ballard's guy is (Dave Toub), so I wouldn't expect too much chaos in Indianapolis.

So far the Bears have interviewed Steve Wilks and Vic Fangio for their coaching vacancy.

Toub is the frontrunner but I'm hoping for his Chiefs colleague Matt Nagy. Josh McDaniels has also been interviewed.

I don't think anyone could be worse than the Browns. It's just frustrating as hell!

My picks for the Wild Card Round are:

Chiefs over Titans: Two teams with identity crisis'. The Chiefs have a better chance of stumbling into a win.

Jaguars over Bills: The Bills' confused offence is going to be slaughtered by the Jags' defence. There is going to have to be a heck of a breakdown by them or a breakout by the Bills for this to go the other way.

Rams over Falcons: Hopefully the dynamic Rams offence keeps going. This could go the other way if Goff falters on a bigger stage and Ryan remains steady handed.

Saints over Panthers: This is a coin flip.

I'm also going with the home teams in each game - although I'm sure there'll be at least one upset.

KC/Tennessee - Chiefs because the offense is back on track and the Titans are a really uninspiring team.

Jax/Buffalo - Jaguars because their defense is just too good even though the team has come back to earth in the last two games.

LAR/Atlanta - Rams because the McVay/Phillips tandem is genius, and the Rams are full of incredible talents.

NO/Carolina - Saints because they have Carolina's number this year. The combination of Brees and that two-headed monster in the backfield of Kamara/Ingram is too much for the Panther's offense to keep up with.

I'm taking the Titans (never bet against momentum)
Jaguars
Rams
Saints (this years sneaky good team)

Toub is a wizard. He would have been hired in Chicago years ago when Ballard interviewed for the GM job that went to Ryan Pace; Ballard blew everyone away with his plans for the team, largely because he knew the organization inside and out ... but because he knew the organization inside and out, he told team president Ted Phillips that he sucked shit and that if he were hired, Phillips couldn't meddle in operations and he (Ballard) wanted to report directly to George McCaskey. Phillips is basically the team's money man and handles the business side of things, so there's no reason for him to have any involvement in football operations.

Well, Phillips didn't take kindly to that, and he's a longtime friend and confidant of the McCaskeys, so the Bears got Pace and John fucking Fox.

As much as I dislike the Patriots (being a Dolphins fan), I'd hate to see the dynasty break up like this.

"PFT has confirmed, as reported by Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch, that ESPN will publish a new story about the Patriots on Friday," Florio wrote. "The focal point reportedly will be the relationship between quarterback Tom Brady, coach Bill Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft and, specifically, the existence of a rift among the three central figures in the 16-year run of unparalleled NFL success."

A "rift"? Strange - I thought that was the inseparable triumvirate. Hmmm....juicy... Let the speculation begin!

A "rift"? Strange - I thought that was the inseparable triumvirate. Hmmm....juicy... Let the speculation begin!

Here it is.

Short version:

- Brady's fitness quack has divided the team
- Brady's insecurities are causing locker room issues, to the point that he doesn't see it as his job to mentor his backups
- Belichick wanted to keep Garoppolo but was overruled by Kraft, who ordered Garoppolo traded
- There is lingering tension between Belichick and Brady and Belichick and Kraft; a meeting to clear the air in December never happened
- The growing perception is that if Kraft has to choose between Brady and Belichick staying, he'll stick with Brady

Edit: After reading the article again, holy LOL if Belichick wins another one, walks away, the Patriots lose both coordinators, and Kraft is left with a 41-year-old quarterback and no succession plan.
