The Raiders now have 8 sacks since firing Ken Norton, 2 games ago. Pagano has been calling some rather timely stunts and blitz'. I have a feeling that the players who were upset about Norton's firing will soon be as happy about it a the fans are. Still a shot at the playoffs.
I was honestly shocked to see that the Redskins are still mathematically "in the hunt". I guess enough teams around the league have been mediocre this year to make it a statistical possibility.
Interesting piece on John Elway and the disintegration of the Broncos. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/b...-broncos-struggles-quarterback-john-elway-nfl
Yeah, being able to land Peyton Manning doesn't mean you're a great GM. I think Broncos fans are beginning to figure that one out.
I'm fully expecting Elway to take over as head coach next season because "he knows quarterbacks" or some shit. Speaking of some shit, Warren Moon drugged his assistant, forced her to sleep in his hotel room, shower with the bathroom door open, would rip her bikini off, and said if she didn't comply she'd be fired. Uh ... yikes.
Heh...it's all well and good that such stupidity is being called out in politics and Hollywood, but it's also quite endemic in professional sports. This sounds like the first Weinstienian brick being knocked out of the NFL wall. Should be fun to watch.
Gah! Saints - do you think you can get even more penalties? Why yes - you can! Looking forward to the rematch with the Falcons in a couple of weeks. With any luck Kamara will be healthy and the Saints will get their act together. Dang.
I actually saw the tail end of that game while I was at my grandparents' (since I don't watch American football at all) and it was the one time I was truly interested in the sport. All games should be played like that!
Bears 33 - Bengals 7. I didn't see that win coming. The Bears will win just enough games to screw themselves in the draft order, not that one top draft pick will help that abortion of a team.
Rams had their chances against the Eagles yesterday, but stupid penalties and terrible play calling at the end doomed us. Damn! At least Seattle lost too. Next week will basically be a title game. And Seattle is a tough place to play. Double damn!
And of course, injuries in the Hawks' end, plus... I want to have words with some of the players for losing their tempers. I know in that one young man's case, the spectators threw their drinks at him, but that doesn't mean he gets to try climbing into the stands! Even when provoked, you don't do that!
Looks like Wentz is done for the year. Tough to have those injuries, but also kinda a dumb/risky diving play for a QB, so that's the risk half of risk/reward, I guess. So many young running QBs, seems to happen more. Another point in favor of slow, plodding Brady Annoyed with the Ravens, thought they might be able to help the Pats out last night, but they let the Steelers come back and steal that one. Still like our chances against Pittsburgh, but would have been nice to have an extra game in hand anyway.
Yeah, throwing stuff at the players is a pretty big provocation, though. I'm not saying going into the stands is okay (and he's probably going to get a suspension for it), but that fan should be banned from the stadium as well. Oh, and none of those cheap shots when the Rams get into their victory formation!
Apparently the NFL is looking into a whole bunch of stuff, particularly all the Seahawks' cheap shots at the end of the game (the Seahawks acting like petulant 3-year-olds when they lose, why I never!), as well as the possibility that Jacksonville didn't have enough security to ensure player safety (and it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if the Jaguars were cheaping out on security personnel).
The curious case of Brady's poor play in Miami continues. Next week's Patriots @ Steelers game is huge.
Woof. Awful game. Pats had nothing doing, and Dolphins were playing the game of their careers. Not sure why, but just a stadium/opponent that Brady has always struggled against. Still almost made it interesting until penalties pushed them back from the goal line at the end, but should have been a runaway. First time since 1991 Pats don't convert a 3rd down. Oh well, Steelers game next week is the big one either way. Winner is the #1 seed, home field, all that stuff. Pats always match up well against Tomlin's "game plans", but yesterday didn't look so hot, so hopefully they don't try and carry THAT garbage forward...
Bears are terrible. Poor Trubisky will probably be learning a new offense next year. Never good for a young QB to be going through multiple offensive coordinators early in their career.
