NFL 2016 Off-season: What exactly are we supposed to do now?

The Bears have announced they will not re-sign Matt Forte. :(

Yeah, because he's obviously the problem.

I am very much looking forward to a great season from my Los Angeles Rams (I love saying that). I'm waiting for tickets to go on sale, as I intend to go to at least one game.

March Madness and NBA playoffs hold me until mid June. Summer when there's only baseball is when it's hard. Sometimes in summer I even resort to golf.

I like that he's been linked to the Pats, depends on $$$ and whatnot, but they could obviously use a RB with his sort of style. They've got a couple of the pass catching, 3rd down types, but Blunt is pretty much done and they need someone to fill the Bruiser role. Never going to be a featured back in Belichick's system, but that sort of player would fit in nicely.

As much ambivalence as I felt about the Rams return, I have been surprisingly cool with it since the announcement. Pretty exciting finally having live NFL games at a local venue. Although I don't plan on becoming a fan again, I wouldn't mind going to some games at the Coliseum. That would be positively surreal.

St. Louis fans initially took the news hard and were fairly bitter about it. Many of them would tar and feather Kroenke if they could. It was like they were the only fans in the country the NFL had ever left holding the bag. I don't think they realized that the L.A. fans had been through exactly what they had. (ramsondemand.com)

I've been a Rams fan since the 70's, when I was a kid growing up in Los Angeles. I was seriously bummed when they left. I actually went to one of the last games in Anaheim (we beat Denver 27-21).

I did travel to St. Louis once, the first game of the 2000 season. It was a Monday Night game (again against the Broncos). I got to see the unfurling of the Championship banner and the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy. That was pretty epic. But the dome was a crappy stadium (even back then) and football indoors on turf just doesn't look right.

So, yeah I'm pretty excited to have them back. I'll bet the new stadium is going to be crazy. Until then, the ol' Coliseum will do fine.

Less surprising than the Forte thing, the Chicago Bears have released offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod, 31, 3 years into a 5 year contract.

Trent Balkie gave new confidence to Colin Kaepernick? Should I expect another bad offseason from the niners? I do kind of like the hiring of Kelly, at least his first year here until it all goes to hell in the next.

The Eagles are systematically dismantling everything Chip Kelly has done before they even start OTAs. While I don't think Kelly was a good GM, I also think part of the problem is they changed too much too quickly. Giant changes all at once aren't going to be the way to fix them.

The Bears are making noise early. They've signed LB Danny Trevathan, OL Bobby Massie, re-signed CB Tracy Porter.

They're (obviously) looking hard to re-sign TE Zach Miller, since the Martellus Bennett experiment is over no matter what.

Denver has lost Trevathan, DE Malik Jackson and Osweiler so far. They're not looking good to repeat at the moment. Who do they even have at QB now?

The Jets have signed Matt Forte. Good luck to Matt and thanks for a lot of good production.

I'm assuming with the signing of Trevathan the Bears will soon announce that Shea McClellin has been launched into Lake Michigan.

I really like the Massie signing, because it means that Kyle Long will almost certainly move back inside to RG, which means two offensive line spots have just been significantly improved with one signing. I'm a little concerned about Massie's pass protection, but he's extremely solid at run blocking, and with Forte gone that's going to be more important than ever. That being said, it is a little strange to build your line for the run when you have fuck-all for running backs, a very fragile quarterback and a decent amount of talent in the receiving corps.

No place McClellin could be used then?

The idea seem to be just that, moving Long back to guard.

Hopefully, there's more to come, with free-agents or in the draft, to address this. Either way, it's going to be a slow process, they have a lot of work to do. Two signings and some re-signings are a decent start.

All the pieces are in place for the Broncos. They have traded for QB Mark Sanchez.

Wait. BUTTFUMBLE Mark Sanchez?

Like, I was chuckling yesterday when I read their Plan B after Osweiler was Kaepernick, but ... wat

Don't worry about Osweiler. As a Texans QB he is contractually required to be injured at least four games a year and have surgery every offseason.

Raiders are quietly having a great free agency season. They've signed Kelechi Osemele, a guard/tackle from the Ravens, Sean Smith, corner from Kansas City, and Bruce Irvins from Seattle. All were among the best in free agency at their positions. The Raiders are said to be after San Diego safety Eric Weddle, also among the best free agents at his position. Gotta give it to Reggie McKenzie. He has stuck to his plan and it appears that he is really turning around the franchise's fortunes.
The Raiders were much improved last season, but it was obvious that they were not even in that second tier of teams. We appear to be ready to do something about that this coming season.
