NFL 2016 Off-season: What exactly are we supposed to do now?

The Bears have also signed ILB Jerrell Freeman from Tennessee. Any good?

He's an average starting linebacker who is bad against the run and good at pass coverage. If the Bears use him as an every-down LB, they will probably be content with him, but if they use him in passing situations only, he'll shine. Someone like Belichick would basically gameplan to run straight at him.

So, an improvement over any Bear ILB from last year?

The Bears have signed DL Akiem Hicks (another 26 year old) to a 2 year deal and resigned TE Zach Miller to a 2 year deal.

So far, a pretty good off-season for the Bears, and we haven't even hit the draft yet.

Pats trade Chandler Jones to the Cardinals for a 2nd round pick and Jonathan Cooper (Guard). was the 7th overall pick in 2013, but only started in 11 games (played in 24), so who knows. Guess they decided they were going to resign Hightower and/or Collins and Jones was going to be too much money?

Jones' synthetic weed incident a couple months back can't have helped his case for being resigned here either...

Bears trade Martellus Bennett and a sixth round pick to the Patriots for a fourth round pick.

Two rounds better for a f***ing crybaby. Probably the best you could expect.

Chris Long in a Patriots uniform.

There is no God.

:p

I wish him well, I've always liked him. He has really slowed down (injuries, etc.) the last couple of years. Still, I didn't want to see him go.

2M for Chris Long, not a bad deal. Not what he was pre-injury, but should be able to help in the rotation scheme Belichick uses. Bennett should HOPEFULLY be a great fit with what the Pats want to do. Big disappointment that Chandler didn't work out, but looks like Bill is trying again with Bennett. Great YAC numbers, and back to 2 Gronk-sized individuals that can catch a ball; hopefully right back to horrific matchup issues for opposing teams. If Hernandez hadn't, you know, murdered a couple people, could have had years of that. Spent the last 5 years or so trying to get back there...

Hopefully these moves work out. Never a perfect situation, but in both cases these should be guys that are being put in a pretty good spot to succeed, and are also in contract years, which never hurts a player's motivation.

Pats also got a LB from the Bears (McClellin), so appear to be raiding the cupboard. Could be an element of spite, too. Pats lost their 1st round pick, so they've traded for (so far) 3 former 1st round pick players.

McClellin was signed as a free agent, as the Bears non-tendered him.

Yes, thanks. Your point? Didn't say 'traded for', kinda pedantic 'correction'... Really seems like Chicago just screwed his career over by mis-judging him at draft time. He wasn't going to stick at DE, and they took him too high. Had he been a 4th rounder, he'd have been fine, no one would have been upset by his performance. As a 1st rounder, he was expensive and didn't live up to expectations, so public turned on him. Meh, we'll see what the Pats can do with him, not an expensive flier...

Pats also signed a RB, Donald Brown. Formerly of the Chargers, originally Colts. They're loading up on former 1st round picks

Well, after several months of speculation and some recent spurious rumors of a potential trade to Dallas (which would have been awesomely hysterical, IMO), the late, great RGIII will be going to the Cleveland Browns. Godspeed, Mr. Griffin - we hardly knew ye!

You're welcome Cleveland!

I don't think you have any room to call someone pedantic when you will leap to pick apart the slightest technicality when someone brings up even a minor criticism of the Patriots.

Sweet!

I'm sure they'll take Lynch or Wentz.

Our QB situation couldn't get any worse, so...

And certainly no team could do worse than Cleveland with a #1 pick.

Hopefully giving up all those other picks won't hurt the Rams too much. How big are their needs in other areas?

Defense is pretty good, got rid of some big salaries on that side (Laurinaitis, Long). Gurley is solid, O-Line is pretty solid. Our receivers are for shit.

As a Rams fan, I'm kind of glad they're taking a chance and making a bold move. We've been mired in mediocrity (or worse) for 12 years. We've got a very young team, hopefully they can develop together. And I'm pretty sure Foles was a one-hit wonder, and Case Keenum is the answer to a question no one asked.

So, I'm good with it. We'll see what happens. I definitely plan to get down to a game or two this season. Looking forward to it.
