New Trailer reveals new old character and confirms setting

Or maybe just to get us speculating in completely wrong directions... As a red herring.

I know it won't happen, but I wish it went like this:

Picard: I'm telling you, we are not trying to change the timeline. Something broke it, and we are trying to repair it!
Ducane: *snorts in disbelief*
P: What?!
D: You really don't know what caused this rift in the time-space continuum, breaking time retroactively?
P: I do not.
D: Well, why don't you ask your friend, Admiral Janeway? Both of them!
P: *puts head in hands and groans* Ah merde!

It could really be Ducane from the USS Relativity!

Didn't Ducane steal the Millennium Falcon from Han Solo?

There is definitely a Community joke to be made around Clan Ducane but sadly I am too shit at the internet to do the picture hosting stuff needed by this board to appropriately upload an image.

Basically just think of Q rubbing a sword on his balls and anyone who has seen the episode of Community I'm talking about will get it

I'm just happy Jay Karnes is in this at all. It's always a good thing when an actor from my home city (Omaha, Nebraska) appears in Trek. :)

I'm going to throw out a crazy theory that's almost certainly completely wrong: What if Georgiou shows up? Am I misremembering or was there a rumor that the planned Section 31 series would take place in the present? Maybe this dark future is the result of her being sent back in time by the Guardian and all Q has done is shield Picard and crew from the changes to the timeline.
They were sending her back to an earlier time, they didn't say which, but I don't think it's going to be here. Granted we've only had one season of PIC, but I don't think they'll be including storylines from DSC. I think DSC and PIC are going to follow the same pattern as DS9 and VOY and stay separate from each other.

Also, they have created quite a few S31 assets for the DSC/SNW era, including costumes, props and starship CGI. Plopping Georgiou back in the company of Ash Tyler and pals would seem the default choice, even if the cool S31 intel cutter interior set isn't available any longer... I mean, this is the context in which the fans learned to love the character, by the assumption of the producers anyway. (Plus, no holograms or androids to be blinked into submission in the 21st yet.)

But in the extremely unlikely event that it turns out to be correct, I'll look like a psychic.

So they were able to get this dude but they weren't able to get Brian Brophy?

W. T. F.

Brian Brophy is retired from acting. Jay Karnes is not.

Not exactly a stretch.

Besides, look what PIC ultimately did with Maddox...brought him back and immediately killed him off. Can't say I blame the Broph for not wanting to return for that.

I thought Brophy didn't even know about the Maddox role in PIC. it was never even offered to him. So we don't know if he would have wanted it or not (probably not, though, if only for the simple fact that he is in teaching now and not active in television acting).

As for Jay Karnes, maybe this could be taken as a nod toward his cop role in "The Shield." Most viewers would probably remember that more than the singular appearance he made in Voyager.
