New to Who

Thanks for the explanations.

The first post-Ponds episode was actually pretty good. I think Clara might grow on me. Not too sure about Vastra, Jenny, and Strax though. I hope they only pop up once in a while, like River.

And then if he accidentally changed one big thing while he was there, Marty McFly style? Or some other time traveling monster/assassin/army showed up in the Big Apple, having tracked him down (where the Doctor goes, trouble follows), and Amy & Rory get mixed up in it? BOOM. No more New York. It's that fragile.

He just can't risk it. Nor can River. Period.

No, he simply can land the TARDIS there, but he's been to New York in the past and the future without destroying New York. And another showrunner can came along and change things just he did to allow him to travel there. He wasn't supposedto go to Trenzalore either but he went there twice.

Pertwee's Doctor seemed fine, but he had a UNIT black budget credit card to fall back on.

Seven, I hear was supposed to be stuck in the sixties, the year after the show was cancelled, hanging out with the Countermeasures group, because TPTB determined that the amassed massive warehouses of 60s paraphernalia the beeb had, should be put to good use before it was all eaten by spiders.

That's really sweet. So he has a habit of meeting his companions when they are really young too. Um, what is his obsession with Clara?

At this point, I think it's more an intellectual exercise for him. "Why do I keep running into the same woman, living different lives, in totally different worlds and times? Has this happened before and I just never noticed? Is it being done on purpose - and if so, what/whose purpose?" At any rate, it's just the thing needed to shake him out of his grief, something totally new and different for him (and remember, this guy thinks and says he's seen and done it ALL several times over by now).

Btw Guy, remember that minisode you posted from way back when? Time and Space. I finally watched it and...

AMY!! RORY!! Pond-on-Pond flirting!

It's only been 4 episodes since ATM but the hurt is still fresh in my heart:(

Sniffle, sniffle:( I'm not on Team Clara yet but it's still early. The one thing I'm liking since Amy and Rory's exit (which may seem weird) is the Doctor's new purple coat. It's kind of awesome!

Four episodes since TATM... so you're up to Cold War now. Wow, you're blasting through this season. :D (And I totally get the Amy hurt. Sniff.)

If it helps, you're not the only one who's not yet on Team Clara...

Eh, the TARDIS wasn't over Rory yet. She liked Rory.

Clara will be fine (or is fine depending on point of view).

Also Clara, like Amy, flirts with herself.

Ha! Co-dependent relationship with a screwdriver. Good one:)

EEK. Too many Claras! My ears can't handle that.

I thought about it. Going slow with season 7. But then I realized that prolonging the pain of losing Eleven won't make it hurt any less. Either way, it's going to be an ouch-fest. I'm predicting the same level of emotions as when Xena, Joxer, and Tara died. Those three run deep for me. Real deep. Add Amy and Rory to that list as well.

So did you finish Cold War (or Hide?) After Nightmare in Silver, I believe, there are an abundance of shorts, even a couple before the Anniversary ones, I believe.

I'll go ahead and line things up for you, then, so you can just go through them in order as you reach the appropriate point between episodes.

EDIT: Actually, I'm just gonna link that third one instead of embedding it. It's a little bit of a spoiler.

You'll be fine for Day of the Doctor. (it is quite fun, and might get you into watching Tennent as the Doctor after you finish the following episode, depending on if you head forward into Capaldi, or backward to Tennent)

Its Time of the Doctor (the Christmas Special for 2013) were you'll have tear issues.

Oh right. Forgot about the Christmas special. I plan on going backwards mostly because David Tennant seems to be the most popular of all the doctors, from what I've heard, and the name Rose Tyler keeps popping up so I'm intrigued.

But before I dive into the earlier seasons I will be taking a mini break to read some of the novels.

Rose Tyler starts with the Ninth Doctor in the episode "Rose". That is a year run until around the 2005 Christmas special were you'd start for episodes with Tennant who will last until the 2009 Christmas and 2010 New Years specials which lead directly into the Eleveth Doctor (Matt Smith) crashing into Amy's life.
