New Picard Series and DS9

If he were trying to hide his supersmarts, surely he could better than only getting a single answer wrong?

Eh, he was so bad at holding himself back in athletics that he had to give up his entire athletic career for fear of giving himself away.

Also, throwing that one question made him salutatorian instead of valedictorian, which is all he needed (to not come out looking like the smartest person in class by far).

I thought he gave up tennis because "he was a good tennis player but a great doctor"

That was a really dumb plot twist wasn't it? And it isn't like they really used it to write a bunch of cool stories around it or anything.

He told Melora he had more talent at medicine than Tennis. But later he told someone else that he gave up Tennis because his parents wouldn't approve of it (which could be because they wanted him to be an important doctor, but in retrospect could also have been them telling him it was too dangerous/would lead to him being found out). And that was all long before the retcon. While I can't remember the exact story off the top of my head I'm ninety percent sure it was mentioned somewhere after his genetic status was revealed that he spent much of his life deliberately holding back and that the need to do so made stuff like sports disappointing to him.

By coming out looking like the second smartest person in his class? She even says that he gave her a tough competition for valedictorian.

The episode I was referring to where he defends his choice to become a doctor over tennis is the one where the alien "Lethian" gets into his head and discovers all his deepest secrets.

That's the episode where he admits he gave it up because his parents wouldn't approve. And, like I said, this was all long before the enhancement reveal which changed the story again.

As for the test, the important thing would be that he not stick out too much or come across like a superman. Presenting a 'tough competition' for valedictorian says 'I'm very smart, but not inhumanly so' and that's what he was aiming for.

Bashir's true superiority is revealed by him being able to fool even the Lethean...

Bashir actually said "nearly impossible". That was the writers keeping the door open.

Induced amnesia has a really poor track record in Trek: Dr. Crusher botched each and every attempt of hers to achieve that!

I think the disappearance of Dr. Pulaski was due to her exceptional skill in that respect. Oh, and she could never resist black leather uniforms with matching badges. Superhuman or not, Bashir might have been no better than Crusher at making amnesia stick.

Possible big news about the Cardassians in 2399...
No more Cardassian Union in the big space map:

I'm not sure how much to read into that.

No 'Ferengi Alliance' or 'Breen Confederacy' either, but the Demilitarized Zone from the early 2370s apparently still exists?

I think the
DMZ(along with the Maquis) was made moot in season 5 and 6 of DS9
and no longer has any political, diplomatic, or legal reason to exist

What about the civilian residents?

In the early part of the Dominion War, when the Dominion and the Cardassians were still all kissy-kissy, the Dominion probably deported or killed any non-Cardassian civilians that somehow survived the Klingon-Cardassian war.

I'll settle for a scene with Garak and a casual mention that Sisko was only gone for a month before he returned, retired to Bajor, and raised his child.

Referring to the spoiler...

The DMZ on that map might refer to a new DeMilitarized Zone.

Besides, that map might be off by a lot.

I believe it's possible that the super nova which destroyed Romulus was caused by the Dominion, because of the attempted genocide by the Romulans and Cardassians.

As the female founder said in "Broken Link: "Your people were doomed the moment they attacked us."
