New Picard SDCC Trailer

I watched the trailer several times and the disassembled Android which is implied to be a salvaged Data.
It has parts missing and looks still well preserved but damaged.
Who said it was B4?

It could be B-4, and even though he has all of Data's memories, is aware that he's still not Data.
In one of the interviews after he confirmed that its B4's body in the opening shot but he would be playing Data. I think there will some holodeck/transfer of memory going on.

Brent Spiner said it in this interview

Well that trailer was mindblowing! I'm even more excited for the series than I was before!

Whilst we don't know how the series will pan out, I'm really glad that Nemesis isn't the final word on the TNG/DS9/VOY era anymore. It was amazing seeing Jeri Ryan back!

The main questions I have after the trailer (after the obvious one of who the girl is) are:

  • Are the Borg still a significant threat? Whilst Endgame seemed to be the final word on them, the trailer implies they are. (X days since assimilation, Borg cube etc.) The cube could be one Starfleet captured of course though.
  • How big a role will the Borg play? Is the girl linked to them somehow?
  • What happened to Hugh? If he's the one they're operating on, it implies he's either gone back to the Collective or just been roaming around in space in the full getup for a while.
  • Is that B4's body, or did they somehow find Data's remains in space?
I saw an interview where the actor who plays Hugh says hes not in the trailer and is still half borg.

First of all: I really dig it! I'm not entirely blown away in awe. But I'm god damn happy and look forward to it like I haven't looked forward to new Trek since the teaser for Star Trek 2009!

Some observations:
  1. The style is obviously a mix between reboot aesthetics and TNG iconography. IMO the safe choice
  2. This includes A LOT references to previous stuff! Since it's a direct sequel (to Picard), I'm letting it slide, and it's not as obnoxious as DIS about it. But for future Trek, I want some original aliens and villains
  3. The Romulans as the main recurring villains, and Borg as the threat looming in behind - That's very much what everyone knows about "Picard". Safe. But IMO the right choice for the first season of a "Picard" show
  4. Almost no starships on display. Probably because the vfx are not finalized. But probably the reason why for some "it doesn't feel Star Trek-y enough"

Some predictions:
  1. It's the surviving Romulans fiddling with Borg technology, and the girl is a result of their experiments on humans. Probably carries the collective in her or something. And the Romulans want her to extract time travel technology out of her to reverse Romulus blow'in up. The Romulans chasing her will be the major villains, the final fight will be the Borg cube suddenly coming alive and the girl choosing Picard and her friends over the Borg and help destroy the cube
  2. Data's scene is just a single scene - they have loaded Data into B4, but it's not fully functional, so they can only have this one conversation/Poker game
  3. Seven of Nine will also only appear on Earth, giving exposition about the Borg
  4. The female Captain was supposed to be Janeway, but the timing or something didn't work out with Kate Mulgrew
  5. The Borg cube is used as a Romulan research station with Federation prisoners that are used as lab rats for nanoprobes and such. In the finale it comes back to life, but is quickly defeated in the final fight.
  6. Starfleet also sees the girl as a threat, that's why Picard goes rogue. In the trailer, they try to sneak into the Borg cube/Romulan hideout/prison lab
Looking god-damn excited forward to it!

Despite my initial skepticism this trailer and what is currently known about the story such as the Borg, Hugh, the Romulans, and a Voyager reference in the form of 7 of 9 showing up, I can say I'm intrigued and am looking forward to this (I've wanted some post Nemesis trek since, after Nemesis).

So Patrick says at the end of the TVLine interview that he initially insisted that he wouldn’t wear a uniform, but later had to insist that he did have to wear the uniform for an upcoming “flashback” they are shooting. Sounds like the Picard Short Trek?

... the young people are the *literal* Next Generation. A group of children from the Enterprise D, maybe the very same ones whose names are on the Captain Picard Day banner in the trailer, who have grown up and tracked down the man who is a living legend to them, to be 'their Captain' one more time. That's why the Romulan hints at him "becoming the Captain they want you to be", why Picard recalls this particilar young lady as special, perhaps in link to a Borg incident, why he says "Engage" in the particular way he does, it's a kind of 'Galaxy Quest' esque story, tying way back to Picard's worry about 'being put on a ship in charge of children' way back in TNG's pilot.
Could the woman be Marissa?

I honestly got a lump in my throat at the end of the new trailer.

"I see that Captain." - God damn.

When Data died at the end of Nemesis, I was devastated. Something akin to how hardcore Harry Potter fans feel when Dobby dies saving his friends. And to see he's alive? I don't care if this show is awful. Data's alive. It's all I could ever want in a Star Trek show.

Don't post here very often but always follow all the ST stuff very closely.

This may not be the most insightful or articulate comment I will ever make, it is however 100% heartfelt.

So, given that 12 hours ago we knew next to nothing about STP all I can say after that trailer is:

"Well, fuck me sideways....yeehaw!!!!!"
Absolutely me too as well!!! Been visiting the board and site close to 20 years now, registered a few months back, never planned to post, BUT DAMN it's totally FANTASTIC! Can't wait!:D

Lots of info here

- They were B4's body parts in the drawer but Brent is playing Data

- Sir Patrick originally insisted he wouldn't wear a uniform, but he later insisted he had to for a flashback scene.

I'm guessing the Romulan/Borg stuff is going to explain how Nero adapted Borg tech for his gigantic ship that was seen in Star Trek 2009.
