New Phaser and Rifle Revealed

No. Phase-pistols never existed.
They didn't? But .... what's this then?!

latest

"lasers" are on the Big Pile of Things That No Longer Exist in Trek™, right next to Time Warp Factors, Space Central, the United Earth Space Probe Agency, Vulcan being conquered, phasers that fire in pulses and detonate exactly like photon torpedoes, the TNG version of the Trill and probably Sybok.

Um, I...think...you may want to start watching Enterprise.

The problem of trying to cram everything into one timeline. Lasers may be a discontinuity but they are part of the "Prime" timeline and really can't be ignored.

Muddying the waters, not only were lasers in "The Cage", they were also in the flashbacks of the time in "The Menagerie, Part II".

Oh, no, I understand that completely. My reply was that you simply can't say that phase pistols didn't exist, when they're in a series and called as such.

Sybok exists! He is retired and living like a king in Patagonia...

Forget about it.

No.

Trek is different things to different people, and different parts are important to different people. They are the ones making the bold claims about it being in canon. Lasers are "canon", so is UESPA and a bunch of other things. They make the claim, they are the ones who have to make it work.

Don't piss on my shoes and tell me it's raining.

Nothing from Star Trek.

I already have. That's how I know it's not Star Trek.

Yes they can, just like lithium crystals instead of dilithium crystals and Kirk's middle initial being R. It's just early instalment weirdness. Forget about it.

This so called "early installment weirdness" is part of what makes it different and awesome. It's a kick in the pants to small universe syndrome. You're talking to the guy who says "Vulcanian."

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today! If you're going to put your foot down about something, it might as well be about a trivial detail! ;)

Out of curiosity, how is it not Star Trek?

It is so bad and contradictory that it can't possibly be Star Trek.
While it is contradictory and there are quite a few episodes that are just not good, it is, like it or lump it, Star Trek. Just like VOY, DS9, TNG, TOS, TAS and all the movies.

I sometimes wish the lousy stuff hadn't happened, but even The Beatles put out subpar songs. They're still Beatles songs.

I slept very well thankyouverymuch! :techman:

What is trivial to one person is important to another. A '71 Mercury Cougar is similar to a '71 Ford Mustang. If you tell me I'm getting a '71 Mustang and bring me a Cougar, I'm going to be disappointed to some degree.

If you are selling something and you get the details wrong, don't be surprised if some customers are disappointed. Or simply treat what you are selling as a distinct entity.

Still "Star Trek", I get a very Trek vibe from it. It just doesn't fit with what they are claiming it is supposed to fit with. At least, for me.

Congrats on the good night's sleep!

There's an order of a magnitude difference (at least) between different, real-world cars particularly when you'll be driving one around versus fictional terminology that differs in a SF show that has no bearing on reality (particularly when the difference was in a one off that occurred extremely early in production)..

It's all Star Trek. Some fans not liking it just means they don't like it.
