New Enterprise fan

sotrm front 1 & 2 weren't BAD episodes, but they were average and somewhat disappointing after such a great end to season three. At the time they made me somewhat apprehensive about the rest of the fourth season, but thankfully it was just an early misstep.

One thing I did like was the shot of Enterprise flying above New York City and being attacked by German fighter planes.

Storm Front was by no means a satisfying conclusion to the TCW. But I agree with the choice to wrap it up because it didn't really go anywhere and it was a bad choice to include it in a prequel series in the first place.

Now I did like Storm Front as an episode, granted I wasn't looking for more time travel stories but it has this whole pulp sci-fi thing going and it includes alien space nazi's and Sopranos gangsters in the same story. It was simply fun. Seeing the Enterprise engage beefed up German Stukas over 40s NYC was just priceless.

"Storm Front" is middle of the road entertainment. It's enjoyable enough in the moment, but it won't go down as one of the greatest two-parters in Trek history.

Coto could've had much more fun with the concept but he went a fairly straight forward plot. It should've been crazier. Still enjoyable though.

:wtf: Well, I guess it worked for Hogan's Heroes...

I haven't had a chance to watch any more enterprise in the last few days. I spent this evening with my girlfriend for valentine's day. She won't be available tomorrow due to work, so we had valentine's day tonight.

Oh that is so sweet. :)

Storm Front part one was the first episode of ENT I ever saw. The combination of the opening music, alien nazis, and an overall lame episode made me tune out for good, until years later, on what would become one of my favorite seasons of trek.

I have been taking an Enterprise break. I'll probably get back to the series fourth season after a while. I finished up Stormfront and Home. I figured I'm at a good stopping point for now.

I look forward to hearing what you think of what is considered by many to be the best season of ENT.

How did you enjoy Home?

Definitely. It makes me sad to watch S4, and think what might have been.

Those countdown teasers to the end of the series, shown on UPN, nearly made me throw a heavy object at the screen.

However, I'm loving this thread! Welcome new fans!!

I have yet to hear of anyone that liked Stormfront. F:censored:ing mess, all right.
I "liked" SF II too, if for no other reason than how Manny experimented with Star Trek's first really creative use of the pre-credits teaser, something the thread starter will see more of as the superb season 4 unfolds.

I thought the short shrift given to the TCW was an appropriate expenditure of time to get rid of a storyline that was holding the show hostage.

I also liked the ending scene when Archer asks T'Pol to show him, and instead of answering verbally, she does that little turn and look, and we then get that shot of (as someone here quaintly described it) "the little ships" flying out to greet the returning heroes.

That was the only thing I liked about SF II; and it SHOULD HAVE come at the end of Zero Hour. IMO, this was one occasion when TPTB did not need a cliffhanger to bring the fans back!

I'd like to answer this. It bothered me. Archer is so shallow that in order to forget all the things he did in the expanse: the piracy, the murders, abandoning the vulcan ship, etc etc, all he had to do was get laid? Get laid once or twice and everything is just fine? Cum on.

Despite the things I liked about SF II, I'll have to agree with this.

Exactly. I have no idea why anyone likes this one. Not only did they simplofy Archer's plight, but Vulcan seemed like Phoenix not Vulcan. (Vulcan was Vulcan in The Forge -- strange, mysterious, alien.)

Overall, watching Home felt like one of the more boring episodes of Voyager to me -- a little painful and trite. In other words -- not Star Trek.

Heee! Touche.

We seem to have lost the new Enterprise fan. But this is as good a place as any to make some comments about season 3.

I just finished watching season 3 on HDNet. I was more impressed with this season the 2nd time around. And seeing it in high definition gives it epic quality, with outstanding production values and visual effects. The main weakness remains the over reliance on the time travel stuff. I didn't dislike any of the episodes, with Carpenter Street being the weakest one, and there were several outstanding episodes.

A lot of credit for this season should go to Manny Coto. His addition to the staff added a jolt of energy to the show (and the time travel stuff wasn't his idea). Every one of his scripts (Similitude, Chosen Realm, Harbinger, Azati Prime, The Council) was well written with good dialogue and pacing. He reportedly did uncredited rewrites on some other episodes such as Damage. But his masterpiece was Azati Prime, an episode which crackles with energy from start to finish, Enterprise's best ever episode.

Now on to watching the even better season 4 in HD.

Actually, I had a very different reaction to this plot. I took it that Archer really needed someone to convince him that he was still "good" and deserving of all the acclaim (the schools named after him, etc.) because he couldn't get past what he had done. Think back to Damage, when he has that conversation with Phlox, the gist of which is, If I do this, can I ever come back to the side of being a good person again? And the fact that Phlox, whom Archer holds in the highest respect as an ethical person, has done something "unethical" in the past, gives him hope that it's not irreversible.

So after being reamed out by Soval for not rescuing the Seleya and having to account for all of his actions, he retreats to isolation by going hiking by himself, a very common reaction. Being intimate with Erika was a way for Archer to be convinced that he was still worth something, that is, if Erika, someone he respects, is willing to be with him, despite all that he did, all isn't lost.

Archer was typically written as a "doing what he thinks is right, lone hero" sort of thing, but those two instances where he was kind of needy and seeking approval rang true to me. I don't think that the rest of season 4 bears out that oh, everything is okay cuz I got laid theory. He is still pretty isolated from his crew for the rest of the series.

Just a different perspective. Sometimes out own life experiences make us see things that characters do or say differently.
