New Companion Being Revealed Tomorrow (21st) at 10.30am

Hmm, wonder what would be preferable...

Trapped in lift with Karen
Trapped in a lift with Catherine Tate
Trapped in a lift with David Tennant.

We might need a poll...

Karen- Rumored to be claustrophobic

Tate- Talk your ear off about her friends sisters boyfriend is a loser making little money.

Tennant- I'm David Tennant and i'm going to save us all! You got a problem with that?

^ I'll be in mah bunk.

As regards the 'former soap actress' thing, Suranne Jones, ex-Coronation Street, did very well in The Doctor's Wife. Ditto Bruno Langley, ex-Corrie, in Dalek and The Long Game. As for Emmerdale, well, I do believe that a certain Frazier Hines also links that soap with DW...

Interesting interview with her...I thought her answer to the favourite Doctor/Companion question was rather amusing, safe answer to go with the current team! Yes, I think I like her a lot already.

And quite a few Doctor Who writers have written/script edited the series. (Which isn't really anything to do with anything.)

I will admit the first few photos I saw of her when her name popped up did give the impression of a typical Heat Magazine/Nuts/Loaded ex-soap actress but the interview quickly dispelled that view.

Although in fairness Hines did Emmerdale Farm after Who.

In fact he was Joe Sugdan to me long before he was Jamie (sad but true)

^ Oh I know he was in DW first.

But the point is, there are many good actors appearing in soap operas. Yes, she looks like the typical hottie from Hollyoaks (not so many good actors in that particular soap, to be fair) but I'm willing to give her a chance.

There you go. You shouldn't really judge an actor by the roles they play.

One only has to look at Catherine "OMG shes going to ruin DW!" Tate.

Oh yeah, I know, just being pedantic. Plenty of actors have done soaps at one point or another...We can add Sir Ian Mckellan and Robert Vaughn into the soap actors fraternity now as well :)

Guy Pearce was in "Neighbours". (As was Russell Crowe briefly.)

And Davey Jones (RIP) was in "Coronation Street" before he was in "The Monkees".

Don't know her from Adam but in that youtube interview she seems pleasant and pretty but in a rather generic way, not too exciting yet. Guess we'll see this Xmas (man, that seems a long way off)...

so its all confirmed now, not too surprising given what happened last night, "former Emmerdale actress" doesn't sound all that impressive.

Well, the Sun has her billed as "former Emmerdale lesbian". Is that better?

i think this might be the first time i will ever use this label so beloved of posters in the BOTW threads, but she seems a generic pretty brunette.

It definitely would have been nice to see something besides just another cute girl, but I guess it is the DW tradition.

And at this rate, I'll be happy just to have ANY new companion on the show. I'm a huge Amy/Rory fan, but they so need to go already.

Which also includes Ben Kingsley, Joanna Lumley, Craig Charles and Linus Roache (Batman Begins, Law and Order and the son of Corrie's William Roache) - all four have appeared in Coronation Street.

I don't think Emmerdale has quite as good a pedigree as Corrie but I'm happy enough to trust the producers on their choice here, until or unless she proves me and them wrong.
