New Companion Being Revealed Tomorrow (21st) at 10.30am

ok so the Sun seems to have it right

pending BBC conformation ex Emmerdale and Waterloo Road actress Jenna-Louise Coleman is the next companion.

According she was "Connie" in Captain America: The First Avenger, im not going to lie here, I dont recall her character, and a basic search throws up a character who I dont think was in the movie. She will also be in the forthcoming ITV Titanic series.

Can I still hold out for Aisling Loftus?

Ex-Emmerdale star Jenna-Louise Coleman is expected to be named as new Doctor Who companion later today by BBC.
so unless the BBC are using a decoy name.

Moffat has said a few months ago that their departure would be heartbreaking, and has teased this on twitter a few times as well. Should be interesting to find out who is the new companion. I can't say that I've hated anyone so far.

The less of a house hold name she is the more beautiful she has to be.

Dame Judy Dench vs Most any given Page 3 Girl.

Odd as this feels to say, I would really like a homely introvert sort of character for a change. A 'rescue' that the Doctor takes in and can have a bit of a fathery mentor relationship with, trying to bring her(I assume we're stuck with women as the main companion for a good long while) out of her shell and heal from her personal tragedies, instead of being a crazy uncle who just wants to show these kids the universe.

Hmm, well I guess we'll know soon enough. I actually had a hunch we might get a south Asian companion, though sadly probably not Rita from the God Complex. Saw some scuttlebutt earlier that it'll be Browder

This IS a suprise! But a welcome one. I just hope she is not another 21st century girl who will have half the episodes centered around her.
AS for older companions, didn't we get that sort of with Catherine Tate? AND she was sort of a household name, and people still did not seem to like her.

I have made my peace with saying goodbye to the Ponds, I just hope River goes with them.

Most people warmed to Donna, and I think you'll find she was well liked, certainly she was a far better foil for Tennant than Freema, and much as I adore Karen G I think Donna edges Amy out as my fave new series companion.

I loved Donna's character right from the start in Runaway Bride. Season four made the character even better. I would love to have a character in a vein that isn't fancying the Doctor in some fashion or another. And it would be nice to have a character from another place and time than the 21st century. Pertwee's Doctor seemed less tied to a time and place than the Doctor has of late thanks to the companions all viewing everything from the hear and now.

However as the Series 7 production schedule runs until the end of the year, if Karen takes a few weeks off to do a movie that doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. Indeed, Karen made We'll Take Manhattan and Arthur did a play while Series 6 was still in production - they came back in July to finish off Let's Kill Hitler.

Ha! I was right, it is Episode 5.

I'll be over here looking smug if you need me.

from the article:
Steven Moffat also confirmed that Rory and Amy's last episode will be Episode 5, and that "Amy & Rory will leave in a final encounter with the Weeping Angels. Not everyone gets out alive and I mean it this time".

Why does someone die? If these are true, fully powered Weeping Angels, they should send their victims back in time (as in Blink). Supposedly, they only killed/took over their victims in the two parter because they were weak.

so its all confirmed now, not too surprising given what happened last night, "former Emmerdale actress" doesn't sound all that impressive.

^ As oppose to former child pop-star or former comedienne?

Look at The Royle Family, half of its cast either had appeared in or went on to appear in soaps.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Maybe a Nyssa type caracter. Brilliant, but quiet. I could really use a break from the brash, in-your-face companions.

So? Then how about Captain America: The First Avenger and the big Titanic miniseries that's airing next week in the US and UK? No one had ever heard of Karen Gillan before either. Billie Piper was primarily known as a Britney Spears clone. Catherine Tate was a complete nobody to anyone without a British passport. I don't know if Freema even had a major acting credit to her name before she joined. Lis Sladen didn't exactly have a stellar resume when she joined back in 1973 either.

More impressive than former crossroads actress :p

As for her. Well at the moment I'm fairly indifferent because at the moment she's just a generic young pretty face. I've never seen her in anything so have no idea what she'll be like, although Moffat seems to be suggesting she talks as fast as, if not faster than, the Doctor!

Moffat also said that she would not be a house hold name...he was right, and yeah apparently Matt had to keep up with her she talked so fast!

Why does someone die?

Because that's what Karen asked for? She said in interviews that she wants Amy to be killed off, so she doesn't keep coming back.

Sure, the Moff can do whatever he wants with the character, but maybe he's giving her her wish?

at least with Freema they had the good dignity not to mention that.

nothing wrong with the casting of Catherine Tate, and sure Billie Piper was unexpected.

Billie and Britney happened at the same time, im not sure its fair to say Billie was a Britney clone. Still struggling to place her in Captain America, unless she was one of the dancing girls. Whilst ITVs Titanic is billed as a flop, before it even leaves port.

I personally wasn't calling her a Britney clone. That's just how some people dismissed her when she was announced back in 2004.

I haven't had time to check the Blu-ray but I think she was one of the girls Bucky tries to set Steve up with at the world's fair early in the movie.

Flop or not, it's giving her some international exposure as I think this is the same mini-series that's getting some major play on ABC next week. I've been seeing good reviews myself and it has the added interest of being overseen by the creator of Downton Abbey which, for some reason*, is absolutely huge in the US right now.

Alex

* Not knocking the show - it's just not the type of show I'd have expected to be a huge hit in the US.

Good. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks she was one of the two girls Bucky tried to set Steve up with. :)

Boy if it was Haley Atwell I think I would have fainted

And here she is standing by Bucky
