Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Galileo 7 Digital Enhancement

Here's a new one. My basic goal was to try to enlarge the monster a bit, since in the original it's not at all convincing. Also added one of his buddies in the extreme foreground, and panned the camera back somewhat to get a wider view of the scene. Enjoy!

Re: Galileo 7 Digital Enhancement

Hmm. Not bad. But what about the remark within the episode directly specifying that the creatures were 10-12ft. in height and not 15-20?

Re: Galileo 7 Digital Enhancement

I think part of the problem with the original monster was that it's clearly not 10-12 ft. tall. Notice in the original shot that the creature is obviously just a guy in a big suit, standing on something behind the shuttle to appear taller. You may be right, though, I probably shouldn't have beefed him up that much. If I hadn't flattened the layers in that photoshop file I would fix that :)

Re: Galileo 7 Digital Enhancement

I always wanted to see a few of the following scenes.

1) The traditional aft view of the Enterprise as its being drawn into the Planet Killer.

2) The famous Enterprise firing its phasers downward from " Who Mourns For Adonis" and "The Apple" with footage of the Planet Killer.

3) The Enterprise racing toward the camera at the end of "The Enterprise Incident" with the three Romulan warships closing in from behind.

Just some ideas. I sure wish I could do this kind of stuff rather than be just a spectator.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

I came across that pic of the 11 footer on display and was looking for a way to use it. A nice aspect of the pic is that there is no nomenclature or registry in view to keep me from using it as a reverse shot.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Actually I already have. :) I was hoping to make it look like it might on a decent dvd transfer rather than what it would look like on a '60s/'70s vintage tv set.

I'm going to try that angle as an orbital shot. I think it might look rather nice. Just imagining the E pulling away from your pov at that dramatic angle. I think it could have been cool.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Using a standard TOS cost saving measure :D here is reusing a shot but in reverse. Finding the USS Exeter...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ I rather like this shot because it gives the ship a real sense of size and mass.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

I decided to review all the pages in here and was dismayed to notice that about thirty or so images within about the first ten pages are not appearing. I'll look into it and if I can't fix it then I'll consider reposting them in a sort of retrospective format.

Hmm. Maybe I should just start another thread because this one is getting rather long. But then I'd lose my count of over 33,000 views.

Later... Okay, the problem seems to have been the crappy browser or something at work (f'n Explorer). All my pics come up fine here from home. However, many of the images posted by Classic Fan and some others are still not coming up. I suspect with those though that the problem may lie at their end.

Mudd interrogation

Not sure if I posted this one. I've got tons of this stuff, and will try to compile it online soon.

You need to Photoshop Mudd into a different shirt. He must really stink if he's being wearing it that long.

Matte Painting revisited

I'm convinced that TOS could be brought up to date with today's special effects without losing an ounce of the important elements that made the serious so great. Here's one example of a matte painting that always bugged me. The perspective on parts of the structure weren't quite right in the original, so I moved the horizon line down and replaced the obvious hand painted sky with a real one. I also changed some of the colors throughout to match the sunset with the shadows on the buildings. Enjoy!

I like it, though I think the perspective is still not right. I miss some of the background structures too.

To be brutally frank, that's not an improvement at all. The minor perspective flaws in the original (and I believe the circular roofs might not have a flat ceiling, but might have actually been intended to be domed) are nothing compared to the mess you made of the thing by taking away the vanishing point.

Unless Starbase 11 was built by bizarre aliens who prefer their rock plateaus to be set at an odd angle to the surface of the planet. Must be a fun place to skate.

The pasted-in sky isn't much of an improvement either.
