NCIS franchise

Well, the Sydney premiere was certainly a very fun and enjoyable episode. I liked it.

One bit I thought was clever,
the American character with an obviously exaggerated southern accent actually turned out to be a Russian spy.

Well, it's not like they could have gotten actual American actors, they were on strike while this was being filmed.
They started filming in May, so if they had SAG actors in the main cast, they would have been fine, for about a month or so.

I didn’t look up the cast before watching the premier, so seeing Olivia Swann was a pleasant surprise

it was strange.

Watching last night and hearing lots of Australian accents for the first time for years then hit an ad break with a Canadian voice talking about hockey and it was a bit of a jolt :)

I freaking love Sydney. And that's final. :techman:

I love the bit where the forensics guy is impersonating an Admiral. "That strange feeling in the seat of your pants will be my boot in your ass!" Straight out of Crimson Tide.

Also I predict the first shipping they will do on this show is Cooper/Jackson. Just you wait.

And the town that JD is from..."Gumbly-Gumbly from Wogga-Wogga"? :guffaw:

Oh and I HEART BLUE.

Agreed on Sydney - and DEO person is a total jerk, but is he gonna turn out to not be a jerk?

^ Who exactly are you talking about?

Do you mean the NCIS official who contacts Mackey (on her laptop) at the end of the episode? He didn't seem to be that much of a jerk.

Apparently the character is called Rankin? The guy from the first episode who told them not to investigate, who popped up in Episode 3 too.

I like that bit where JD tells Mackey that when Aussies like someone they always give them a nickname. I have been told that this is true IRL. :)

Not gonna lie, the final scene of the Sydney ep about the bomber at the "dog café" made me tear up.

Halfway through the ep, in the midst of the hostage situation, Rosie - who is one of the hostages - gets a call on his cell from somebody named "Pack Leader". He said (to the teenage girl with the bomb) that it's his wife, who has dementia, and he has to take the call. So he does.

I naturally thought that the call was fake and they were using it to get to the bomber, possibly to elicit sympathy from her.

The last scene revealed that the call was real. That actually was Rosie's wife. Blue drives Rosie to a care facility and he goes in to visit her.

I've enjoyed the NCIS Sydney cast and stories so far - even Blue (who's character thankfully got dialed back a bit from 11) with the exception of Evie aka one half of the inevitable "will they won't they agent couple".

Really too bad it's only an 8 episode Season 1.
Hope we get renewal news soon and don't have to wait too long on new episodes.

I thought the dog cafe episode was a few weeks ago? Haven't we had the drug dealer one and the bunker one since then?

That's the latest episode that Paramount+ has. I guess I just assumed it was the most recent.

So I edited my earlier post.

Oh, and this is not really a spoiler, so what the hell: I cracked up during the one scene where one of the other hostages - who is a huge, buff, weightlifter type dude - goes to the front door to unlock it (the bomber herself is too short) so JD can bring in a telephone.

The guy gets to the door...and immediately escapes, running away like a scared little kid. :guffaw:

And nice that she's not another McGee who can break the super encryption in under 10 seconds and magically track a person's phone.

Bugger hadn't realised that.

We can look on the bright side - every NCIS series that's made in past the pilot stage (ncis:red which was a stinking turd) has had a multi-year run.

Not sure on the ratings in the Australia but there was coverage in the local media in the leadup to the premiere and a number of articles during the run.
