NCIS franchise

We can look on the bright side - every NCIS series that's made in past the pilot stage (ncis:red which was a stinking turd) has had a multi-year run.

Not sure on the ratings in the Australia but there was coverage in the local media in the leadup to the premiere and a number of articles during the run.

ratings alone won't be the decider about a renewal, however it certainly helps and it's encuraging.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I really like the characters and show so far.

As mentioned prior:
the show was initially created in a big part in order to keep somekind of an Australian/NewZealand broadcast contract/slot and certain grants from a multiple-companies construct with Paramount (ANZ) involved.

A core requirement was to have Australia produced content, with a certain percentage of Australian cast and staff.
Similiar requirements also exists for Netflix in Europe for example.

Additionally Paramount also needs content for their regional and global streaming efforts.

NCIS Syndney was deemed as an option to enhance one of their current core IP (NCIS-verse) that despite it's critisms is watched a lot across the globe.

Put that all into a mixer and voila NCIS Syndey was cooked up.

the US writers and actors strike was kind of a lucky break for them as I'm not sure they would have shown that series stateside otherwise, as that was never the intended core market.

I'm sure it would have made it to the US eventually, the strikes just expediated the process.

Everything I heard was that this was as planned: it to stream (outside Australia) on Paramount+. Did the strikes move up when it would have aired? Very likely.

And we will be getting NCIS Origins, about Gibbs in 1991 at Camp Pendleton working with Mike Franks. Mark Harmon to narrate ala Jim Parsons on Young Sheldon; Mark and Sean Harmon executive producing (the show is Sean's idea), though a new actor will play Young Gibbs.

David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal to showrun and produce.

LoL! Young Gibbs. :)
We already know that story from flashbacks in the actual show. Also, was it not NIS back then?

I wonder if the show will bring in (eventually) a young Dwayne Pride and the rest of the Fed Five. It felt like in the final year of NCIS: New Orleans the writers on that show forgot/ignored that story in favor of the Pride/Sasha Broussard story.

Has potential.

I'm cautiously optimistic. A show like this could be tricky, but does have potential.

Thinking over the timeline, 1991, with Gibbs being a probie, that's what, roughly a year or so after Shannon and Kelly were killed and Gibbs dealt with things in Mexico? Depending on how long this show lasts we could potentially see him meet and start dating Diane?

If this is a hit, CBS will greenlight CSI: Young Horatio Caine, CSI: Young Mac Taylor, CSI: Young Gil Grissom, Criminal Minds: Gideon and Rossi - The Younger Years, Blue Bloods: Frank Reagan - Rookie, Elementary: The College Years, and Baby Sheldon.

If this starts in 1991, and JAG starts in 1995, we've got four seasons until they crossover back into JAG, are Andrea Thompson and Andrea Parker still around?

Andrea Thompson quit acting to go into journalism, then came back, but her post-journalism resume pales in comparison to her earlier work. IMDB doesn't show any credits in the last several years.

Not interested in the Origins premise, might change with casting announcements.

Sydney‘s finale was one of it’s weaker episodes IMP, and I expected a twist along those lines.
Hope it gets a full sized season 2 and that JD is back too.

it wasn't the finale.

New eps start this week with 3 or so to go for the season.
