Clue #1 This character would be upset with Chekov's comments, if overheard. A reasonable response might be, "suck it up and stop complaining!". Although, over-hearing was not likely to happen with this character.

For my part, I was as cool and collected as Kirk the entire time.

The ill-fated, unfortunate Lt. Galway, part of the epidemic of blueshirt deaths throughout the series' run, probably wouldn't have been too happy with Chekov's whining. But, as she was clearly not hearing well due to the radiation sickness, she was unlikely to have overheard his ridiculous remarks.

I always felt so bad for her. She was an adorable blue eyed cutie; so nice and not deserving of that tragic fate. And Chekov is there only worrying about a few pin pricks after being so fortunate to avoid that terrifying affliction.

Well, poor Lt. Galway. And in a mark of how edifying this thread can be, I never really thought about what an abject jerk Chekov was in that scene, with five of his shipmates dying. In fact, given that TDY is one of the relatively few Sulu + Chekov appearances in S2 (and one of the very, very few in S2 where the two exchange any dialogue), they missed a real opportunity there for some nice character interaction and development. Instead of having Sulu say, "You'll live" with a smile, he could have said something like, "You know, Pavel**, the captain, Spock and the others may be dying. Don't complain so much."

**I'm not sure if Chekov's first name was established by TDY or not, but I think it was.

Number One disappeared after the first pilot and nobody ever spoke about her again.

Edit: There's even more in the comment itself. "no one" is another way of saying Number One. "no" being an abbreviation for "number."

1. At the start of the episode, Kirk only worries about Scott and Sulu:

KIRK: No, keep it open. I don't like this. Nothing since the first check in. Scott and Sulu should've contacted us again a half an hour ago.
SPOCK: They may have nothing to report. Our sensors indicate no life forms except our landing party.
KIRK: Both those men are well aware of landing party procedure. They should've checked in with us by now.
UHURA: Contact established, Captain.
JACKSON [OC]: Jackson to Enterprise.
KIRK: Enterprise. Kirk here.
JACKSON [OC]: One to beam up, Enterprise.
KIRK: One? Jackson, where are Scott and Sulu?

2. Dead man walking Jackson is sent up the Enterprise with a message flowing out of his dead mouth. Scary!

Very bad poetry, Captain. But a very good guess. I note even that "putting a spin" on the message could refer to Jackson's artful fall off the transporter platform.

However, Jackson is not the mysterious figure.

Balok from The Corbomite Maneuver?

1) He showed up in one episode, "borrowed" Bailey and was never heard from again.
2) The spinning cube which held the Enterprise like fly paper until they destroyed it. Picture below.
3) Balok's alter ego - the alien puppet, more scary looking than Balok's actual appearance. Picture also below.

I know it is wrong (don't match clue 1), but the Melkotian Buoy spun, too, and it had a telepathic hallucination warning threat. His image was scary. So, I'm guessing the Melkotian.

I think I know the episode ("What Are Little Girls Made Of?"), but not sure which character. But, I will say Kirk (instead of Korby).

1. Kirk disappears
2. The spinning machine makes androids, but Kirk gets a message to Spock by thinking about it and forcing it into his replica.
3. Kirk 2 is not a viable replacement. He can't fool Spock or Kirk's other friends for long, and he refuses to kiss a pretty looking girl-like-entity, which is very un-Kirk-like.
