Let me tweak my answer a little. Not Balok, but Balok's puppet? It doesn't have arms.

It's a dummy. A puppet of some kind. And not the correct answer, Mister Weeps.

    1. Hey, no one commented on my own disappearance.
    2. Let me demonstrate the awesome power of this device and put a new spin on the message?
    3. Now this appearance just isn't very viable.
    4. Maybe I should do something about this glowing thing . . . if only I were armed.
    5. Copy that, Yonada. No way? Way.

    7. Clearly, I must return to the posting of the first clue. In this outing, I vanish also, but no one seems to notice that changing of the guard, and when the one guy asks the other guy about certain reports, he's really only talking about me and someone the one guy could have asked directly, as well as the one guy and the other guy themselves. I mean, as far as we know.

(Seventh clue there in an attempt to pay homage to the wonderful style of SPB when posting his clues.) :)

    8. In the same installment featured in Clue 4, thank goodness I was on escort assignment and not, say, on relief planet duty. I mean, that was no relief. Geez.

    Ensign Garrovick?
    1. He got separated from the other two guards who get killed. Lucky him.
    2. The Antimatter Bomb!
    3. ?
    4. Error light on his ventilation system.
    5. ?
    6. ?
    7. Guards on planet discuss movements with Kirk before the attack.
    8. ?
Note the high number of "?'s" because your clues are too vague to me.

    No difference, Ensign.

Oh, Commodore Henoch, meet me in my quarters when you've cleaned up. I'd like to talk to you about these clues. Several vague stories I think you'd like to hear.

    9. Clue Six does not refer to any on-screen event. It is a signal to the solvers that there are *multiple* "segments" at work here. You know, out of a total of say, 79 or something. Or was it 80? In any event, Clue Four and Clue Eight are from the same "segment." Clue One and Clue Seven are also from the same "segment," but not the same as Clue Four and Clue Eight. Clue Two is from another. Clue Three is from another. Clue Five is a play on words. And speaking of words, there was only one time I decided to use them.

    10. Answers have been guarded. Surely there is more security to be found in virtual anonymity and near silence. I wear it all like a red badge of courage.

I was going to say Leslie but I think he spoke more than once ( referring to clue 9).

I'm thinking Lieutenant Johnson (David L. Ross) from Day of the Dove. The spinning pinwheel entity was a glowing thing which he sees with Kirk in the corridor, but he is only armed with a sword and not a phaser. As Lieutenant Galloway, he was disintegrated earlier in Season 2 The Omega Glory, and now makes a new "un-viable" appearance with a new name.

So according to clue 9, this character has appeared in 4 episodes but only spoke (used words) once. Also possibly security guard related.....Hmm......

I'm thinking The Cage, The Menagerie, Captain Pike (Jeff Hunter and Sean Kenney) but I'm going bonkers trying to make it all fit.

Assuming that's a lie, let's talk about the fact that no one limited it to four episodes. Why, this character would be quite fazed by that underassertion.

Apparently, @Phaser Two is too polite to declare my last guess, incorrect, or he is lost in thought trying to think up a witty response. :rommie: That said, I assume my last guess as incorrect, and have proceeded to a new guess which I feel is more likely to be correct:

    Ensign Roger Lemli?
    1. I'm sure he vanished off-camera sometime during one of his 33 appearance episodes.
    2. Present as a guard for Garth in Whom Gods Destroy while he was treated under the now good, spinning light neural neutralizer which was revamped from the evil machine in Dagger of the Mind.
    3. He was a blurry illusion in The Empath.
    4. Phasers the swirling cube computer in That Which Survives killing the Lorisa triplets.
    9. Only spoke two words, "Aye, Sir." in Turnabout Intruder.
    10. Red shirt security guard. Check.
