Name of Romulan Commander

2takesfrakes

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
In "The Enterprise Incident," the Romulan Commander whispers her name into Spock's ear, to which he responds, "How rare ... and how beautiful. But so incongruous when spoken by a soldier."

She whispered her name so carefully, as not to be overheard - especially by we, the audience. Why not just come out and say, "my name is Sammy Jo" like anybody normal would? It's very awkward - it almost interrupts the scene - so why include it, as it wasn't necessary? Has anything ever been made out of this in Fan Circles? Novels, perhaps?

I like the name 'Liviana Charvanek' because I just love how the novelverse has fleshed out this character and given her such a wicked sense of humor. I definitely hope we see her again! :rommie:

Since the two were alone in the room, her whispering anything would be a huge red flag. It would tell Spock that they weren't really alone, that another Romulan was listening in.

It would be like John Colicos' Klingon in "Errand of Mercy" being monitored in his office. It also reminds me of the political minder aboard a Russian submarine in the novel The Hunt for Red October.

Wasn't there a novel which named her Ael? Or something similar?

Or am I thinking of something else.

I believe A'el was a main character in "My Enemy, My Ally" and later novels in the Rihannsu series. But she was a relative of the Romulan Commander from "Enterprise Incident" not the Commander herself.
