My thoughts on SGU

Also, wasn't she sleeping with Young at some point?
That's Lt. Tamara "Looks just like Scarlett" Johansen. Also not a bad choice but she does appear to be hauling an entire baggage car worth of issues behind her. It might be worth the risk.

Okay, I think I'm going to need one of those "Stargate Universe in Eight Minutes" videos before tonight.

You're looking for realism in a franchise where people travel across the galaxy by wakling through a giant puddle?

Well the Stargate franchise carries a reputation for being real as far as USAF culture is concerned. It is much better thought of then the JAG/NCIS relationship to the USN and USMC

Well, being a relistic depiction of the USAF has nothing to do with the lack of realism of Eli getting a job through online gaming, which is what Training's post that I was responding to was about.

Also, there are times when realism has to be forsaken to provide entertainment. A 100% realistic show would be pretty boring. Mind you, I never thought of JAG as a particularly entertaining show anyway...

JAG had it's moments, but I usually hated the whole bits of dramatic moments of them doing things that'd get a real lawyers ass tossed in jail, let alone disbarred, discharged, etc... but that's typical of a lawyer/cop show, so...

Well The Last Starfighter reference to introduce Eli really wasn't different then the MacGyver reference used to introduce Captain Carter in the first SG-1 episode

Nah, Young said in one of the early episodes he was going to retire to his wife I think. I figure that after ~20 years (or however long it takes to become a colonel),

About 22 years give or take.

Talk about willy waving. 20 years is written and you feel the need to correct it saying 22?

20 years was a major milestone for C Youngs generation. At 20 he would qualify for his retirement pension but he would not have yet been selected to earn his eagles or full Colonel rank. It is one of the decision points the family would have had, get out now for the second money making career or continue with the chances of warriors during the time of global and just concluded intergalatic wars.

Um.. this isn't true. Quite a few people have gotten jobs through online gaming. If they show an aptitude for gaming, a lot of gaming companies will hire. Further, the US Army is installing recruiting centers in malls with war games that people can come in and play.

And one more point? Studies have show that people who online game have better team, problem solving, and leadership skills than those who don't.

Whoda thunk it?

So far with me, this series isn't looking good. I prefer watching Caprica even though I'm a Stargate fan and never liked BSG that much. The characters just aren't growing on me and I'm not interested in them. Maybe Stargate is more suited for good, clean fun?

I think that's what's missing in the world today.

I like it pretty much. I'm an SG-1 fan as well but for far different reasons. There are some things I don't like but they're trumped by the things I love. Hope to have more scenes with Greer. He's pretty awesome.

I thought i was going to hate Greer but he is turning into my favorite.

Sgt. Greer is written in a rather simplistic manner as a stereotypical soldier, tough badass military grunt, doesn't take shit from nobody but is fiercely loyal to his commander. Fortunately, the actor is able to take the rather simple material and actually elevate it somwhat to make a decent performance out of it. Indeed, thanks to the actor's performance, Greer could actually be one of the more realistic military characters in the Stargate franchise, definately the most relistic in SGU. Hell, he might even be the most realistic character (military or otherwise) in SGU.

The guy is a great actor, because he has made me dislike his character intensely!

I wonder what he did to get locked up? They keep implying that it was something pretty bad.
