"Sisko and several crewmembers choose to remain on an embattled outpost to help during a grisly battle with the Dominion."

Easily the best episode dealing with the war.

Crazy cult fanatics and same old Dukat, except he now is certifiably insane.

Am I the only one that really, really LIKED this episode?

Seriously, Mr. Alaimo must've really done his homework on cult leaders before he did that, because he did one HELL of a convincing job, in my book.

(BTW, this is a bit shameless, but I used a screencap from this episode as a reference for a pose for my alternate Dukat. And when I mean AU Dukat, I mean VERY alternate...as in, The Good Twin.)

Kira (or someone) had to put their foot down. As Odo mentioned in an earlier episode, the Romulans aren't known for giving back territory that they've won. Even though they were currently allies, it isn't too smart to give the Romulans a foothold in Bajoran space and then let them have weapons to defend it. The Romulans had to back down because they were in a no-win situation. Sure, they could have annihilated Kira's little fleet but it would have jeopardized their alliance with the Federation and the Klingons.

I liked it at first because it brought some complexity back into Dukat's character, but by the end he just turns into a villain again and how the cult turned against him in the final scenes was ham-fisted. The first 3/4 was quite good, but after Dukat decides to kill everyone things turn lame.

I disagree on that, though...that really sealed the deal on making him a religious fanatic.

This is one of my favorite episodes, mostly because my last name is Kor. It really tickles me that my namesake in Star Trek is a glorious Klingon warrior!

"After having lost a leg in the siege of AR-558, Nog returns to DS9 and finds he's most comfortable on the holodeck with Vic."

I love Vic episodes and this one was terrifically done. Very emotional too, great job by Eisenberg.

You're outlining all of the reasons why I don't understand the criticisms of Season 7.

Ezri is good in this also. One of the few times a consellor on DS9 actually works as she basically lets Nog and Vic play then puts a stop to it when it's about to go too far.

I've always thought highly of season 7. There are some clunkers (Extreme Measures LoL), but I find them easy to ignore. The ambition and the scope is just awesome, and there are some excellent individual episodes, off the top of my head: Treachery, Faith and the Great River, Chimera, The Siege of <whatever numbered asteroid>, Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges, Tacking into the Wind, and the finale rank among my favorites.

"When O'Brien disappears on Ezri's home planet, she reluctantly returns home for the first time since receiving the Dax symbiont in order to enlist her mother's help in finding the Chief."

I am a big Ezri fan but for some reason this episode didn't really stick with me. Her family was too stereotypical to be interesting.

You're not the only one. I thought this episode was a masterpiece for Alaimo and Visitor in fact I actually enjoyed the storyline with Pah-Dukat. Which probably leaves me in the minority...

I watched this episode a couple of days ago and I can't remember anything about it.

I think it's a much better episode than is normally recognized. I think sometimes people have a hard time digesting Dukat's multiple transformations, but I think there is a unity there: he is a meglomaniac, and in this episode he discovers a new route to power basically, that of cult leader.

Kir's relationship with Dukat it is a long and torturous one, and over seven seasons the writers make some interesting and gutsy choice with regard to it. After all, Dukat is someone that Kira would equate basically with Hitler or at least one of Hitler's minions, and yet she can't seem to shake his influence on her life.

She handles each situation with a lot of grace and courage, though, this episode included. It's good stuff, despite some of the episode's obviously silly aspects.

"In order to solve a series of murders on the station, Ezri contacts Dax's former host Joran, a murderer."

Although the resolution was a little lame I really enjoyed this episode. Ezri is getting episodes better than Jadzia ever had. Joran was great as well, he should not be forgotten by Dax anymore.

The thing I like about Ezri is that since she's so unsure about herself they actually show the differences between Dax & Ezri and the differences in the hosts. In comparison Jadzia was always so assure of herself and seemed to revel in the knowledge/adoration of the past lives.

For me it's kinda like how people who are fans of a football club seem to take credit for their team winning. It just rubs me up the wrong way since they can't seem to distinguish between the people involved and the people who supported.

Though I can also understand the Ezri dislike as she got a bit of focus when everyone was wanting the major story to continue.

"Odo's chance encounter with another changeling abandoned at birth by the Founders leads him to question his place on Deep Space Nine and his relationship with Kira."

Odo is going to end up leaving. Everything Laas told him was true and Odo knew it. It took me about half the episode to realize that Laas was JG Hertzler. He did a great job. Too bad he wasn't given more roles like Jeff Combs.

    "Badda-Bing Badda-Bang"

"A programming variation put mobsters in charge of Vic's holographic bar and casino, requiring the crew to take on the personas of characters from the 1960s to save Vic."

When this episode started I thought it was going to be a typical TNG-style "we are stuck in the holodeck" episode. I loved the way the story was told. Although ultimately meaningless, this was important to them. So far I have loved every episode that Vic has been in and this was another great one.
