My journey in Deep Space

The Federation - and the klingons and the romulans - didn't take "punitive" action against the founders because the Dominion only retreated from the alpha/beta quadrants - it was not completely defeated; not even close.
The Dominion's industrial/military base was located primarily in the gamma quadrant, and, unlike the federation's (and the klingons' and romulans'), it was not affected by a major war.
Punishing the founders meant invading the gamma quadrant and starting a war even more savage than the dominion war - a war the federation alliance was likely to loose.

Simply put, the founders have too much power to be "punished".

I see... so who is to say history won't repeat itself? Is Odo really their only hope in getting the founders to respect other species? I guess that explains why he was so adamant about staying with them instead of returning with Kira at some point.

I can't be bothered quote-spoiler'ing; if you want to discuss this start another thread.

There's a lot in your post that ascribes the actions of individuals to entire races, however. I know Trek tends to do that a lot, but that's more the writers than the legal system.

Also, in answer to your last question:
Odo doesn't stay with the Founders indefinitely. In fact, the Great Link itself mysteriously disappears a year or so after the end of the war; the reason for this hasn't been revealed.

"Time's Orphan"

"Molly O'Brien falls through an ancient time-shifting device, emerging as an adult who has lived alone in the wild since her early youth."

The idea of losing a child to time is very powerful. The episode was emotional enough and I actually thought Molly might not come back.

"The Sound of Her Voice"

"The crew of the Defiant attempts a rescue of a Starfleet captain trapped alone on a planet with diminishing life support."

Why did she have to be from the past? How come the crew couldn't actually fail for once?

"Tears of the Prophets"

"A disastrous decision by Sisko and the evil machinations of Dukat lead to the collapse of the wormhole and the death of Jadzia Dax."

Was that really the best death they could come up with? Why do I have a feeling that Sisko will be back? Well I am finally coming down the home stretch, one more season to go.

Grats! Now that you have seen a good majority of DS9's episodes. I'm wondering what are your thoughts on the series?

"Image in the Sand"

"As Kira struggles to run Deep Space Nine without the wormhole and Worf mourns Jadzia, Sisko receives a vision from the Prophets of a mysterious woman."

Lots of build up to what should be a better second half. Loved seeing the look on Sisko's face when Dax showed up.

"Shadows and Symbols"

"Sisko travels with Ezri Dax, his father and son to learn what the Prophets expect from him; Kira refuses to obey a Starfleet demand that Bajor cooperate with the Romulans."

Kira annoyed me so much in this episode. She really needs to pick her battles and this was not the time. The Romulans backing down was even lamer.

"Afterimage"

"Ezri Dax and Garak both attempt to come to terms with their conflicted roles and relationships."

Ezri is cute as a button. She is already a more developed character than Jadzia ever was. It is kind of refreshing to have a character that is not 100% sure of themselves. Good episode for her.

"Take Me Out to the Holosuite"

"When a condescending Vulcan whom Sisko despises arrives at the station with a list of complaints, Sisko and crew declare war...on the baseball field."

One of the funnest episodes of DS9. I loved this episode. The game was great and it had many laugh out loud moments. Worf was priceless. "Death to the opposition." One of my all time favorite eps.

Take Me Out To The Holosuite is one of my favourites as well and stands up as one of the best 'Lighter' episodes Trek has ever done.

After reading the Memory-Alpha background information on that episode, I find it even funnier since supposedly the actor who plays Rom can actually play baseball really well.

Yup, that's my favourite episode of DS9 season 7 so far (about to watch "Field of Fire"). I'm surprised I could enjoy an episode as much as I enjoyed that one so far into DS9's run, especially after some people said the show really went downhill in quality after season 6. Always good to see it still has some juice.

"Chrysalis"

"When Bashir uses an innovative technique to treat the autistic, genetically altered genius Serena, he begins to fall in love with the woman she becomes."

This episode felt very real to me. Bashir had an actual love interest that completely made sense. He moved too fast and it freaked her out. It was good to see a relationship break down in a real way like that. They didn't take the easy way out and simply have her slip back into her coma. Bashir had his heart broken and I felt it.

Sisko arguing with Odo, "What were you doing? Regenerating?" Awesome.

"Treachery, Faith and The Great River"

"Odo is summoned by an escaped clone of Weyoun, who wishes to defect and who tells the changeling that the Founders are all dying; as the Dominion pursues them, O'Brien tries to get the Defiant repaired with Nog's help."

Another very solid episode. Nog was great with all his trading. I thought the Weyoun story would be a whole ruse but he actually wanted to defect and his suicide was perfect. This season is starting off strong.

"Once More Unto The Breach"

"Worf helps Kor get a posting to Martok's ship so that the aging warrior can die a noble death."

Great way to send Kor off.
