Sure the two pilots depicted a trouser option, but it was no where to be seen in the series.
Actually it did appear again, though it was indeed rare:

Actually it did appear briefly during the first season in the background on cast extras.I'm no feminist by any means, but a female uniform that constantly flashes her panties. Undignified and unprofessional looking. Sure the two pilots depicted a trouser option, but it was no where to be seen in the series.
Soun d in space?
Sound in space?

All it would have taken was one solitary instance of seeing a woman as a Captain, a Commodore or an Admiral and it would have laid the whole issue to rest. A terrible missed opportunity.
For myself I agree, but given how much traction this issue has had with fans over the years it's apparent that something more tangible was needed.Number One was serving as captain. It would have been nice if more had been done in that direction, I agree, but that settles the issue as far as I am concerned.
^ And you believed a nutcase like her?![]()
Fair point. You have two conflicting ideas. One, is that women can't be starship captains. Two, but that idea is being spouted by a complete nut job that has committed homicide against her colleagues and was going to execute Scott and McCoy for mutiny. Is Janice Lester a reliable source of information about Starfleet and its policies towards women?
Out of universe, this is the same show that gave us Number One and the Romulan Commander. Did anyone ever ask Gene Roddenberry or Art Wallace about Lester's comments about no female starship captains?
I still remember in the original pilot when Captain Pike had a clipboard with paper on it. I loled so hard at that. They got rid of it in the regular series, but it was so ridiculous that anyone could think this would be something in use in the 23rd century.... Thoughts?

Yep! If it was said in TOS then I believed it!

Yep. Same here.Star Trek probably has had a bigger impact in forming who I am than any other single thing.
Yeah, they had a big book to look up comets in "Balance of Terror," too. Nobody knew how anachronistic it might be, that's part of the charm.
