OK, I just answered your question in my previous post if you would care to read it: Riker was there. What I quoted was from that scene you evidently are referring to. But neither Crusher nor Riker know exactly how the virus is transmitted.
One of my favorites of all the series and movies. It shoves down your throat that the Vulcans are different, and not just Humans with funny ears. The entire episode Amok time was highly disturbing for me.
For all Riker new, all she had to do was spit on him, possibly even just sneeze at him, so I disagree. A clear field with her in the firing zone was really indicated.
From a transcript (the scene immediately before Riker beams over):
Riker does not know what is safe and what isn't.RIKER: How could this virus have been transmitted, Doctor?
CRUSHER: More ways than I can count. And it's perfectly safe to the carrier as long as he doesn't have the same DNA patterns.
Picard and Riker blasting Lt. Commander Remmick's head off in "Conspiracy". I just sat there thinking, "Wow- did I just see that?!" A pretty disturbing image, and not what I was used to seeing on Star Trek....
Exactly. I still think that scene is gross!
Remmick getting the Mr. Creosote treatment was definitely disturbing.
Picard: And finally, monsieur, a phaser-thin beam.Remmick getting the Mr. Creosote treatment was definitely disturbing.

Picard: And how are we today, Commander?
Remmick: Better.
Picard: Better?
Remmick: Better get a bucket. I'm gonna throw up!!!

What about (Bajoran) Dukat in bed with Kai Winn?

A close second would be that episode where Kirk looks out and sees "some... Thing..." crawling around out on top of the Enterprise's left nacelle.
