More 3D Printing

I like the way you incorporated the deflectors on that Starfleet ship, it's an interesting solution to the 'where is it' question and the non-standard symmetry is unique.

Thanks, I was trying to do something different. :)

Well, sorry I've been away, but the day job and family events have been keeping me busy. I haven't had a lot of time to work on models, but I did get a few things going!

First up, a bowling team photo, with the accompanying trophies that I made for the event. :) The event was called the Costume Bowl, which was a competition between the local StarFleet chapter and the local 501st chapter to see who could raise more money for charity. The trophies were for the highest scoring team, and the individual highest score. In the photo, that's Me, my Wife, and son Trip in the Starfleet Uniforms, along with my Uncle, Brother and his Girlfriend. :)

After we got done with that, I did get this ship done; it ended up being called the Athena. It was kind of a pain, I had tons of trouble getting the seams smooth on this one. But, I finally had to just call it done, I had been messing with it for almost 6 moths. :)

A few days ago, I finished a conversion kit that a friend had been asking for. He has several of the 1:500 Revell Enterprise kits, and wanted to convert it to as close as he could to the Beyond version. He also specified that he wanted to use the kit Saucer, not a new one. So, I came up with this:

All the gray parts are the printed ones, of course. :)

And last, just laid the first coat of primer on the Gunstar tonight. :)

And, I'm tired. :D

More soon guys. Down to 8 more projects on the work board! ( I was backed up to almost 20 from the last convention! )

Oh man, I love those statues! A Star Destroyer with Galaxy nacelles, such delicious blasphemy.
Yep, every year I try to do some kind of mashup. Last year was an Enterprise with a Millennium Falcon in place of the saucer. :)

How many sub-components is the Gunstar? I asume the deathblossom petals are glued on?

It's 7 parts, all together. The petals are each a separate part that go in to a slot, the body is 2 halves, and the cockpit in the front is a separate part. :)

More stuff soon, started a couple more new things last night.

Given the amount of detail on your models, do you try and sand them before priming them or do you allow the primer to fill in as many imperfections as possible then sand (and repeat). Just curious!

Both ways, depending on the model. I have a problem getting smooth seam lines sometimes, but I try to hide them as best I can. Usually, it's 2 rounds of primer and a sanding before each. :)

I've been using DAP plastic wood as filler, since most model putties I've tried dry harder than the plastic, Wich make them hard to sand.

If I want a really smooth model, I've been doing two coats of plastidip, then primer on top of that. But, that's a lot of work. :)

Interesting thing about the Gunstar. That "cockpit" at the front is actually the Gunner's Nest, where our hero Alex, played by Lance Guest, sat. The actual cockpit is back against the engine pod, where Grig, played by Dan O'Herlihy, sat and ran everything that wasn't actually firing the weapons.

You are right, of course. :) I've watched the effects sequences of this movie several times over the years, but have never actually watched it all the way through! I should probably do that. :D

Hey Guys!

Decided to take a small detour tonight, and work on my Orville model. Ever since the trailer came out, It's been tickling the back of my brain! Coming out well so far, got about 2 and a half hours of work in it.

I'm planning on printing it out at about 14" long, and displaying it at the next Con. :)

More soon guys!

Got the prototype Orville model printed out. :) I know it isn't screen accurate, I wasn't really aiming for that, just having fun. :D

That was a fun marathon session, I haven't done an entire 3D model along with the print all in one weekend in a while! :D

More soon. I've got something new I'm almost ready to share. :)

Thanks man. :)

And speaking of Atolm, I've been making his Katar Class Romulan Bird-Of-Prey into a printable model. :) It's a neat design, and it's been fun working on it.

Got more plating to build, and some more details, but it's just about there. :)

More soon!
