Thanks man! Been working on the Enterprise diorama tonight, and got it about 80% done! I experimented with using cotton balls and pant to simulate explosions on the TARDIS, and lens flares on the phaser banks. I even used glow in the dark paint, so the phaser beams actually have an active effect. (In a totally dark room, anyway!) More soon, hopefully this one will get finished with decals and all by the end of the weekend! Have fun guys. -Ricky
Haha, probably cast a woman Doctor for the Christmas special, but made her regenerate halfway through back into Matt Smith. :P Thanks! The glowing parts are actually cotton balls, that I superglued to the TARDIS and then dabbed paint on. I just spread it around with my exacto until it kind of looked like an explosion. I might tweak the stuff on the phaser emitters, to make it less uniform. -Ricky
Thanks man! I'm on a roll this week! I ended up doing something totally new for the base... a few years ago I used my digital models to make some backgrounds for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary; I decided that this one would be fitting for a base! I think it turned out well. (Basically, it's just a laminated photo print glued onto a board I painted. ) Back to work now. -Ricky
I'm not familiar with your scanner, but I work at a dental lab with a couple scanners. One is a white light scanner and the others are red laser scanners. We've found that if as surface is giving us troubles to scan cleanly, we can spray it with Tinactin. That's right, tough actin' Tinactin, the foot fungus spray. It dries to a matte white surface that scans beautifully and cleans off easily after the scan. Not sure if this will be useful for you but I figured I'd mention it. --Alex
Hmm, I bet that would work! Thanks for the idea. Yep, it's just a simple red laser scanner, so nothing special there. A lot of guys dust the originals with talcum powder, but that is a mess and gets all in the scan bed. I'll pick up some at CVS next time. -Ricky
Been working on a few things! The Gunstar is getting close to done, just details left mainly. And, finally got Outlaw Star painted! And progress on this weird thing. Trying to do something different with it, inspired by Atolm a little bit. More soon! -Ricky
That's pretty awesome! And yes I am really loving the Akula-esque Ship! And that Outlaw Star truly Rocks! Oh and the Gunstar in Death Blossom mode is cool beyond words, because it is a FREAKING GUNSTAR IN DEATH BLOSSOM!!!!
Thanks man. Haha, probably. I just rewatched that scene, and it doesn't look bad, considering! Not sure yet, client is naming it. -Ricky
According to this article, the original Gunstar was 750,000 polygons. I was surprised at that number, considering it was released in 1984!
Wow, that's impressive! I'll have to look at my final polycount, but I don't think it's anywhere near that high!
Thanks guys! Well, not even close to 750,000 polygons! I'm sure they were counting triangles back then, not quads, so I'm coming in at 26,812. More soon... working on a ship for a video game tonight, that I hope I can share soon... got another game contract. -Ricky
