That's neat, do you find Polar Lights kits tend to vary from kit to kit in quality? I mean of the few I have done the best one was the Voyager model I made, most of the others seemed to vary from good to not so great.

I'd say mixed. The overall quality seems dependent on the scale.

The smaller 1:2500 models have tiny connector pins susceptible to breaking off if not careful. Both the Discovery and the Shenzhou featured above have at least one broken off CP each.

So shut up and just glue them down, right? Remember, I need them to come apart for storage in their own boxes, so I sometimes need to come up with alternate solutions to satisfy that requirement. It isn't hard to do but it is more inconvenient. If I could buy these at a larger scale, I happily would.

But the PL 1:1000 of the Discoveryprise is the most well designed model I have ever built. It nearly completely disassembles. I'll someday show that when I get to the model's spotlight on this thread. Stay Tuned for that...

What color green did you use for the BoP?

Hi. I don't know what it is called, it is molded in that color. I just added some lime green as a weathering effect.

You know, if we ever go aboard the VOY J, I hope we're shown a display case with all the VOY's in gold stretching back to this original.

Since I have been building one, getting to know every part, and getting into the designers head, I have recaptured my enthusiasm for the design.

Here is a sneak peek at an idea I had inspired by DISC, mood lighting in crew quarters. She's actually way more finished than this now. I still have a lot of tiny decals and some blemishes to touch up before she is ready for her spotlight.

What are all those indents in the upper hull for?

I don't think they were ever given canon explanations, but based on included decals to cover clear parts that go in them, they appear to be observation ports at both ends of large lateral corridors that link port and starboard sides.

Plenty of space for bunk beds!

There are two corridors in the engineering hull too.

DS9 is a funny thing. Seeing the actual studio model in person it looks grayish. But it photographs dark tan.

I tried the game Model Builder on steam and it wasn't what I wanted so refunded it. It's a virtual model building game where you build and finish models.

Besides vehicles and spaceships, and military items what other things can you get model kits of? I saw a model kit of a laptop once but that was a promo item given out to a few people. I'd love to see oddities like that happen more.

The model kit differs greatly from the shooting model, which is very bland looking for such a highly detailed design. The kit takes some liberties which all improve on it imo. Of course it didn't improve enough for me.

That's a neat detail but I think those indents do waste a bit of valuable space. They could have just kept the hull shape and had upward windows

The indents are only really there so that they could use the same set with the same windows for everyone's quarters regardless of where they were on the ship.

That makes sense from a production point of view.

The vertical windows on Voyager also allow the set walls to match the shape of the model better. I never liked how on TNG, the exterior walls of the quarters sets were way too steep to be on the very flat saucer.
