Measure of a Man; Extended HD and Extended Hybrid?

So, stupid me....

I knew that this episode was extended, but figured it would play the extended version by itself. Which it didn't. Kinda sucked, since I was really looking forward to it. We decided to rewatch it at a later point, as we both feel we don't want to watch the same episode right again.

But I noticed there's a Extended HD version, and a Extended Hybrid version. What's the difference?

Apparently, the "extended version" only really existed as a VHS tape that was kept by the writer Melinda M. Snodgrass.

For the Extended HD version, the VHS tape was used as a "guide" to go back and find original film elements for the additional footage.

So it's not as finely remastered as the rest? The hybrid version shows the original material?

The HD extended cut is more polished, like the rest of the remastered episodes.

The hybrid version is rough, and I would say it's the kind of thing that only an aficionado would appreciate. It splices in the extra footage from Snodgrass's standard-definition VHS tape instead of using the original film elements for those scenes.

The Extended Remastered verison features everything rescanned from the original film in 1080p, whereas the other Extended edition is more like a rough cut version of the episode, so don't expect SFX in the VHS parts (which have been upconverted to 1080p), voice-overs are missing and are either not provided, or they are from on set readings by one of the production staff members. There are even one scene where Picard is talking to someone on his desktop computer and in the VHS version it just cuts to a full screen of the other actor, while in the HD version it has been edited to appear just within the screen portion of the computer.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I recently bought the complete box set on Blu-Ray and I've reached Measure of a Man and was wondering what the difference was. Now I know ;).

Ive just got the complete set as well...

I had no idea there was an Extended version of Measure of a Man, so I'm looking forwards to this one :)
