Branding aside, is there any reason the MCU couldn't just call them Avengers, the successors to the original generation?

Of course, they would always be Young Avengers in relation to the OG Avengers, so that could justify the name.

I wonder when we'll find out for sure who the Avengers in the movie will be?
Comic con 2025? Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Hulk and Dr. Strange for Doomsday and Wolverine, Deadpool, Tobey Maguire Spiderman, Iron Man and Evans Captain America for Secret Wars.

Why are they having such a hard time getting Blade off the ground?
Yeah, it's pretty disappointing and frustrating...and I've never seen any of the Snipes films (yes, yes, I know...). I was looking forward to seeing Mahershala Ali in the MCU in a role that he was excited about (if I recall correctly,  he approached Marvel about playing Blade).

Also, it's annoying that the usual people are dancing and being smug about this news.

Honestly, they could call them the Champions - but they'd be giving up the Avengers branding, which is probably not something they're willing to do at all (and they haven't exactly set up any particular reason for these kids to want to stay separate from the actual Avengers, unlike in the comics).

They could call them Young Avengers if they came out this year, maybe next year or the year after, but that's clearly not going to happen so Kate at least will be pushing 30 by the time they make something and that will just confuse people.

They could call them New Avengers (or just Avengers or something similar to that), but at that point it just begs the question of why this team? Why only younger characters? If they're just going to throw out the idea of them being the Young Avengers (or the Champions) and actually focusing on that, then why not just take the most popular characters and integrate them into the actual new Avengers alongside Strange, Shang-Chi, She-hulk, etc?

If they're giving up the focus on the younger characters being younger then surely it makes more sense to just have one Avengers franchise and only focus on a more broadly appealing line-up anyway, rather than having a secondary line-up only aimed at people who love the modern/recent characters.

Is Ali under contract? Cast him as Kang.
( I have no idea how movie contracts work)

He'd be under contract for the character of Blade, not for whatever they feel like making him do. That could be negotiated around if they really wanted to, but A) they've already abandoned Kang, that's why they cast RDJ as Doom and B) he went to Marvel to pitch this movie in the first place because he really wanted to be Blade, so he probably wouldn't be amenable to having his contract switched to play some other character.

Blade has been removed from Marvel’s 2025 calendar. Insert gif of Wesley Snipes saying he’s the only Blade.

Blade should be a relatively easy character to make a movie for. He's a daywalker who hunts vampires. Just give him a "Big" vampire to hunt, stick a bunch of generic vampires in his way, and let the fun begin. It doesn't have to be super complex, especially not to start with. Its been long enough since the Snipes movies that they don't have to put that much effort into making a new Blade movie super different or anything.

That said, they also could have gone full Blade vs Dracula with it and that would also have been fun. Of all the movies we know they have planned or are rumored to be doing, Blade feels like it should be an easy win for them.

In the 80s a bunch of dipshits decided to call themselves "The Great Lakes Avengers".

On the outs with his own team, heading towards divorce with Mockingbird, Hawkeye crashed their scene and gaslit these mooks "You jabronnies are not Avengers! How dare you! How dare you! ...Of course if you accepted me as your leader, that would be a horse of a different colour."

Captain America still sued all of them, including Hawkeye for defamation.

I'd say 5 out of the 20ish is plenty, and I actually have read the first three or four issues in the first Masterworks, including the Fantastic Four's appearance in #1, so I know how that stuff was handled. And there are plenty of different types of crossovers in both the MCU and the comics, so you can't really lump them all together.

I said 60s, meaning his comics from the debut to December, 1969. A few appearances is not in any way comparable to the MCU's format by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, well, well.

They are never going to make a new Blade movie with Mahershala Ali and will likely just find a way to put Wesley Snipes version in another movie.
