The villains in all three Iron Man movies desperately wanted to be Tony Stark.

You know what, I never actually thought of it like that..... But in the world created for the MCU, that kind of makes sense. Because they all also reflect the negative sides of Tony. And he has plenty of them.

Comic Book Tony fought a few "dark reflections" himself. Especially early on with armored communists like Crimson Dynamo and Titanium Man.

But wasn't Killian planning to sell weapons to both sides of the future conflict he was planning?

He might've tried to market Extremis soldiers, but his primary objectives were control, power, and recognition.

I didn't really get main villain vibes from Hansen. She seemed more like a side character

She's 'secondary' to Killian, yes, but that doesn't make her a side character or make her any less villainous than him. Extremis was also 100% her project, not Killian's.

Not really.

Stane wanted to be Howard, Ivan wanted personal familial revenge, Hammer was jealous of Tony, and Maya wanted Tony's help to fix the defects in Extremis (but didn't care who got hurt along the way); Killian is the only one who wanted to 'be' Tony, but he also wanted power, control, and recognition.

Comics are quite limited here in the Netherlands. About 25 years ago I could get some translated Batman and Spiderman stuff here. But OG English imported stuff? Limited to a few VERY niche shops and only a handful of people buy them.

Control, power and recognition are common objectives. I guess for me he didn't have an interesting enough backstory or personality to compensate

How could you not find a jilted psychopath with both an inferiority complex and a superiority complex interesting?

Because he didn't come off that way to me, at least back then. I remember him being mad at Tony for missing a meeting at the beginning then years later he's a fire breathing scientist/business guy. I don't remember him having any notable dialogue selling him as some of kind of inferiority/superiority mismatch.

Just out of curiousity.....
You often mention all the characters you find boring. Which are many. Which ones do you consider compelling?

Good question

Most of the heroes so far (save any Black widow or Hawkeye). Some took a while though

Thanos, Loki, Kang, the real Mandarin, Baron Zemo,

Also Fury, Wong, Talos
