Black Panther 2 is reportedly going to start shooting in July, with Shuri's character to have a more prominent role.

Probably not surprising since Shuri was the breakout star. I guess Chadwicks death inadvertently bumped up her role.

He would have likely done three or four movies before Shuri took over.
I guess they must have come up with a plan if they are already setting a date to star filming.

That's not always a sure thing. Sometimes movie schedules are dictated by contractual and business considerations and have to go ahead whether the script is there or not, leaving the filmmakers struggling to come up with something and often resulting in the story being kind of a mess. A notable case is Star Trek: The Motion Picture, where they were still trying to figure out the third act while they were filming it.

Hopefully that won't be the case here, though.

Rewatched X-Men, still think it's a great film despite some flaws but can see why others would think it was more flawed and disappointing. Great themes, visuals, generally characterizations and tone, the main flaws are that it's a little too Wolverine-centric and -glorifying (and it does do well with that) but with the other X-Men having too little material and energy/camaraderie and Cyclops especially coming off pretty badly, also Magneto is done so well and Toad and Mystique are cool with what they have but Mystique and Sabretooth just have too little material.

Hard to balance a huge cast, especially with the 104 minutes runtime, but the focus could have been a little more balanced-out even with the runtime.

One thing I'm very hopeful about with an MCU X-Men franchise is them actually making the X-Men an ensemble. Even if a couple of characters end up being more popular or having bigger actors, I expect everyone to get stuff to do and not just have one character be the center of the franchise. that, plus knowing we're never going to have to watch another X-Men film made by Simon kinberg or starring actors who completely check out and phone in their role, really make me want to see what the MCU does the X-Men sooner rather than later.

I'm more interested in seeing what they do with the Fantastic Four. The X-Men have already gotten 13 movies, several of them good or great, while the FF have only had 3 movies (four if you count the one they never released) and none of them having been more than OK.

It doesn't help that the FF's whole schtick of being "A family with Superpowers" thing was essentially usurped by The Incredibles.

Eh, the Incredibles really doesn't usurp the FF. The actual family dynamics of the FF are so different from the Incredibles that they're basically incomparable outside of the very basic idea of a group of superheroes who are also a family. Really, outside of Violet and Elastigirl sharing powers with FF members, the groups are almost completely different.

I mean, they could always go the Ultimate Universe way, throw some zombies into the mix, make Mister Fantastic become a villain and pair up Sue and Ben.

My idea is that the Fantastic Four operated in secret (secret war). We spend one movie in the 1970's.

Second movie would be present day. Dr. Doom wants to lay claim to what was once Sokovia.

The United Nations does not approve/recognize Dr. Doom's new country "Latveria"

The Fantastic Four are brought back into action.

Outside of Miles Morales, nothing should ever be taken from Ultimate Universe comics.
They've already taken their Nick Fury and the idea that the Avengers(/Ultimates) are a goverment initiative. I think there are some other neat things the Ultimate Universe did during its time. For example the aforementioned zombie arc was pretty neat, and the post-Ultimatum X-Men comics may be my favorite X-Men comics (from the ones I've read), simply because they were actually allowed to permanently change the status quo and go somewhere with their humans vs mutants thing, as opposed the main universe where everything will be resetted to a "mutants fear humans, the X-Men fight the evil mutants to show the humans they aren't bad after all" type thing.

Looking at the list of ultimate comic publications at wikipedia, this may be all the good things (and the original Bendis run on original Spider-Man), but it is something!

I think I wrote earlier (maybe in this thread) that the FF should be introduced to the MCU as having gained their powers during the five year gap--so they are already established in the MCU in their first movie. Like Spider-Man, we do not need another origin story.

Personally, I would probably suggest putting the origin story in the first five minutes. Have it, but don't focus at all on it. Or maybe start in media res but have a flashback or conversation about it.

Regarding which version of the origin to use, I would argue the Jim Lee drawn Heroes Reborn one is actually a really good one. It's more or less than original 616 one, but it adds a greater mythology to it that creates a reason for it all happening.

My thought was to have an origin-story video playing on screens in the lobby of the Baxter Building while a character arrives there to meet with the FF and request their help.

Or they could do it under the main titles like The Incredible Hulk (2008) did so deftly.

Haven’t they sort of set up this whole thing since Homecoming?
With someone buying the old Avengers tower and them moving out?
It’s been speculated since then that the tower could become the Baxter building ?
