I hope they include the cancer storyline. I felt it was a really powerful aspect of that story.

Would a Marvel film's running time be enough to do it justice, though? Considering they'd also need room for the action/big stakes stuff, the new villains and supporting characters, and the many jokey bits I'm sure Waititi will want to put in.

Depends on how you define justice I suppose.
I would rather it be included than not. It adds stakes and weight to the story that might balance out all of the jokey moments.
Personally, I don't know the point of the Jane Foster as Mighty Thor WITHOUT the cancer storyline. Without it, it's just wish fulfillment. With it, there's a real cost to being Thor.

If they're going to include the cancer storyline, I personally think it ought to be something that we see happen onscreen, which would mean holding it off for potential future films instead of it being something that she's already dealing with as of the start of this film.

The hammer was killing her.

How can that not be the story?

Although I was never sure if the hammer was supercharging the cancer or curing her of the chemo.

Yeah, totally. You can't have a character be a scientist AND a fighty/punchy type hero. It'd be unprecedented!

...Oh hey there Tony,
Umm...ARMS DEALER? Loves to blow up stuff at his sales presentation??? Also, he has Pepper to take care of all the CEO-type of stuff.
That got FORCED on him -- NOT his choice
A teenager...and in this modern age... kinda hard NOT to want to be a hero?
We don't know much of his adventures, but it was with SHIELD...more "spy type" of stuff...and he quit
She was kinda forced into it by family.
Shuri....
She would make a HORRIBLE Black Panther. I don't think she's quite the martial artist as T'Challa (and possibly lose a challenge to the throne; she would NOT be able to use tech), and would be complaning about all the stuff a Wakanda Monarch needs to do, and not having any time to create stuff. Nakia, on the other hand, would be perfect. She has fighting skills but also has literally traveled the world as well as creating allies of diverse people.
He's got some anger issues...stemming form an abusive "childhood"

Dr. Selvig wouldn't be any less "worthy" than Jane, but he isnt a candidate to be Thor either, or 99%+ of humanity.

Like i said, the MCU haven't really developed this well for Jane...as opposed to say Sam as Captain AMerica.

Hope was hardly forced into anything by her family. If anything, her family was trying to keep her out of the hero game.
I read this and I was like "wait, when did we start talking about the X-Men in this thread?"

It took me a second or two.

Congratulations on ruining a perfectly good joke.

She actually became the Black Panther for a couple years in the comics, after T'Challa was crippled by Dr. Doom, as I recall. (He got better.)

This and also: Shuri doesn't have to be the Black Panther to be a hero. Look at the last act of Black Panther and you will see her wearing her own unique supertech to directly stand against Killmonger, which is absolutely no different from what Iron Man does. And again in the final battle of Endgame, there she is on the field fighting back to back with all the other heroes.

And the whole Monarch thing is totally irrelevant. Only two of the MCU heroes are actual monarchs, the rest are just heroes, and the mantle of Black Panther is not automatically held by the king anyway (T'Challa was already the Black Panther before he became king).

Yeah...so he's a scientist/engineer who punches people. What's your point?
That got FORCED on him -- NOT his choice
Tell it to Professor Hulk.

After decades...of punching people! And Science!
She was kinda forced into it by family.
Kinda not. I mean what movie did you watch? She practically begged to be the one in the suit in the first movie...and even before that, she punched people!

Dude...your presumption is showing...
Also, did you miss the part where she suited up and kicked arse at the end of the movie?
Also also; T'Challa is a scientist too. I mean he did design the suit he was wearing in CACW.

...and?

A bit late to the party, but a few thoughts on the SDCC announcements, in random order:

*While I'm glad that the Hawkeye show will introduce Kate Bishop to the MCU, I wonder if there might be a risk that, should she be "promoted" to a future movie project, those who see her for the first time there rather than on Disney+ would miss out on important details regarding her character, or at least that which will be created for her on Earth-199999 rather than over on Earth-616.

*Speaking of Earth-616, that universe's Shang-Chi is currently teamed up with other superheroes from across Asia in the New Agents of ATLAS; he's in those comics as part of the team, and is mentoring the more recently-added Chinese hero Lin Lie in the Sword Master comic series. Going forward, rather than adding him to the Avengers roster, I'd be much more interested in seeing an MCU equivalent of the Agents of ATLAS form up; with the likes of Sword Master, Aero, Wave, and Luna Snow (who, along with other South Korean characters featured in the Marvel Future Fight smartphone game, will be given a stand-alone intro comic in October) added to the mix. And, while I don't expect it to happen, a nod to Kim's Convenience would be great to see!

*So far as Jane Foster goes, I also wonder if the long-term plan might be to see MCU Jane become (a) Valkyrie after a stint as Mighty Thor, inspired by the story arc currently playing out in the new Valkyrie: Jane Foster comic. Well, so long as it doesn't involve losing Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie in the process. ("Valkyrie" is more of a job title than a code-name, so two or more of them existing at the same time would not be without precedent by any means.)

Depends on the run she got.

Tonys' health issues flowed throughout the Iron Man movies fairly naturally as a progression which was only occasionally directly connected to the specific plot so yeah I could see it working provided they were willing to invest time in the character.

Since we'll be picking up with Jane a decade (or more) after we last saw her, we could pick up with her in the advanced stages of her illness without any real issues. That's assuming that they even decide to adapt the story straight from the comics. Rather than cancer, perhaps it's a side effect of carrying an Infinity Stone in her for as long as she did.

The Infinity Stones give of a lot of radiation, that really isn't even a stretch. Maybe that would also be why she can be the one, the only other recent user of Mjolnir besides Cap was Infinity Stone having Vision. Coincidence?

Is Vision gone for good now? I hope not but the fact that we even had a Vision is great, I'd liked to have him around more.

Paul Bettany will be appearing in the Wanda / Vision series on Disney+, which will directly lead into the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen is confirmed to appear in the Doctor Strange sequel, but Paul Bettany is not.

So if I want to see Vision I'm going to have to get Disney+. Meh.

I realize they are not going to jeopardize the movies, as in you'd have to have Disney+ to understand them, but I hope they aren't going to use it to relegate some characters to it only and therefore make them Disney+ only.

Just because they don't have a role for Vision in the Doctor Strange movie specifically, that doesn't mean he'd be somehow forbidden from appearing in any movie. A single case is not a universal pattern.

I believe I said this earlier in the thread, but I think it's a better storytelling direction to actually show Jane's cancer diagnosis if that's a narrative direction they want to head in.
