*sigh* I see Bree Larson is flogging NFTs now. So disappointing and hypocritical from someone who claims to be an environmentalist.

She said it's because this particular company is Flower Girls, which claims that 20% of its primary and secondary sales profits are donated to various children's charities.

So I think it's less about the NFT and more about the children charity stuff.

Doesn't make it any less a bad idea to invest in what's essentially a money laundering scam (and an environmentally damaging one at that.) Mind you even Neil Gaiman fumbled his way into this kind of thing too for basically the same reason. It seems the new thing is to tempt celebrity endorsement with the fig leaf of "charity". They should be a little less concerned with where a percentage of the money is allegedly going, and a little more where most of it is coming from.

    Yeah, that is disappointing.
I might have gone with that, if we didn't just have a movie where a good chunk of it had the three Spider-Men interacting, and discussing their very different histories.

As I said, I was approaching it more from the interpretation of the word "character" as a term for a fictional entity. Within the story itself, Peter Parker or Thor or whoever is not a character, but a real person. So using the word "character" implies a real-world perspective on the fiction, and from that perspective, all Peter Parkers are the same character.

Hopefully they cross over with Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man in time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the MCU in a few years.

Not when they're all sharing the same story together they aren't.

But even in story a the clearly different people, since they look different, are different ages, and have lived very different lives.

I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that the word "character" can be interpreted to mean something different from that. It is possible to look at the same thing in two or more different ways.

I saw where you said this the other day, and it troubled me. After further review, this phrasing is all kinds of wrong, and you should feel bad for using it.

From what I've read she's already divested herself of it, which means it's not even selling, it's basically an endorsement deal . . . for a pyramid scheme. Do IQs just drop sharply the closer people get to LA, or what?

Curiously, I just noticed that out of ten nominations (before these two), none of the Marvel films have won this Oscar. Usually they lose to the big science-fiction film of the year (often from Christopher Nolan).

I guess that means Dune is a shoo-in.

I mean, I've never seen anything particularly impressive in MCU effects:shrug:. Just like everything else in the franchise, they're factory made copy and paste.

I was annoyed that "Joker" was nominated for "Best Costuming" over the Skrull designs in "Captain Marvel"....when the only real "Costume" in Joker was Arthur's getup.

One MCU movie that I feel deserved either a cinematography or effects Oscar is Doctor Strange. Their magic reality bending battles were far more creative than standard MCU fare.
